In 1991, I finally quit his band and the whole organization. I was totally exhausted… I had left Prince’s band because I really felt his direction was wrong, I was uncomfortable, you know? I was changing and I knew something was missing, but I didn’t know what. I knew that my life had to change and I didn’t want to live that way anymore or be in that environment, where it was always so negative. It was just wrong."

Sheila E: Playing to the Heartbeat of God, 2002

She also had a problem with the songs that Prince was creating for her planned 4th album on Paisley Park Records, saying that the songs were lacking a melody.

I sorta think she is talking about 1989 - 1990 about the 4th album

I remember her saying something about the music had changed too much and there wasn't a lot of color and melody.

What's the matter with your life
Is poverty bringing U down?
Is the mailman jerking U 'round?
Did he put your million dollar check
In someone else's box?
Tell me, what's the matter with your world

yep and if you listen to a song like "Girl Power",you can see what she's talking about. The song is very mediocre and uninteresting.

--- this is most of what Sheila said in her book. She also mentioned all cursing going on around PP.

Had to be a very different scene vs how it was for her 1984-1987 Most of the old guard were gone by 1991 I believe.

"Loverboy" has a Janet Jackson/Jam and Lewis vibe to it

[Hello? Hi. I just want to talk to you. Please.]

Baby, what happened to you and me?
It wasn't supposed to be this way
I said, baby, baby, baby
What happened to you and I
and all the promises we made

I don't know why you left me
I don't know why you said goodbye
I only know that since you left me
I feel so all alone, baby
All I do is cry, baby

We meant so much to each other
We said we'd love one another
And all I do is cry, baby
We meant so much to each other
We said we'd last forever

Did I fight you? No
Please don't go away
Hold me tight
Tell me you'll stay
Tell me why you're blushing, baby
Tell me why your body shakes
Thinking of the love we make

Close your eyes and listen
To the pounding of my heart
I feel a fire burning
You drive me crazy, baby
And all I do is cry

We meant so much to each other
We said we'd love one another
And all I do is cry, baby
We loved so good together
We said we'd last forever
All I do is cry
We meant so much to each other
We said we'd love one another
All I do is cry

Baby, please don't go
Touch me, hold me
Touch me, squeeze me, love me

I need you now to wrap your arms around me
Baby, don't you ever go

Don't know why you left me
Don't know why you said goodbye
I only know that since you left me
I feel so all alone
All I do is cry, baby

We meant so much to each other
We said we'd love one another
We worked so good together
We said we'd last forever
All I do is cry, baby'
