What's the matter with your life
Is poverty bringing U down?
Is the mailman jerking U 'round?

I don't wanna drive your car
I don't wanna dance
I don't want your diamond rings
I don't want your demands
You make me crazy

Yes, you're so divine, I want you all the time
Till no satisfaction, got to make you mine

You take me through changes
Love or let me go, oh, oh
I'm just the man for you, baby
I think you should know, oh, oh

I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh

I don't wanna take you out
Don't want you to go
I don't wanna hold your hand
?
You make me crazy, horns

Did you like that, baby
Can I do it one more time?
Everybody, baby, clap your hands
You wanna sing my line

You take me through changes
Love or let me go, oh, oh
I'm just the man for you, baby
I think you should know, oh, oh

I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
Just stay tonight

You take me through changes
Love or let me go, oh, oh
I'm just the man for you, baby
I think you should know, oh, oh

I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
I said, I wanna be your man, baby, oh, oh, oh
Break it down

Everybody, everybody break it
Hit me, everybody c'mon
Everybody, baby

I just saw Pretty In Pink for the first time today, and it was nice to see the JJ posters in the record store featured so prominently.

I can see now why that film is considered a classic. Great movie and a nice slice of everything 80's.

But I digress.

That first album was excellent! I think my favorite track is "Can You Help Me" headbang and the B-side is "Free World"......a kickass jam that got ALOT of radio airplay too!!

Interestingly,Jesse recorded a song for another Molly Ringwald movie,The Breakfast Club (one of my favorite movies). This song is played during the closing credits. The female singer is Stephanie Spruill.

So did Ta mara and the Seen come in during the Revue or Jesse's 2nd album?

How soon did Prince go after her to get her in his band?

My broken heart made it quite able to say
She was a devil in disguise
I loved her and she loved me, so she said
Should have known I wasn't the only one

But it really didn't matter to me
I was too blind with the love to see she only havin' fun
And my friends say that I'm a fool, a victim of her crime
But to me there'll never be another love

I want my girl, I want back my girl
I want my girl, I want back my girl

The emptiness in my life was [Incomprehensible]
She meant everything to me
Reality that she hurt me, yeah, she did
But I never thought that she would leave

I didn't care if she had her fun
Make love to someone else, baby, as long as I was number 1
An angel she may not have been, still I loved her so
You know, girl, you never never had to go

I want my girl, I want back my girl
I want my girl, I want back my girl

TaMara and the Seen's debut album was released in late 1985,several months after Jesse Johnson's Revue (but before Jesse's second album).Their second album Blueberry Gossip came out in 1988.By 1989,Tamara (Margaret Cox) was working with Prince on the MC Flash project, which never came out.

It seems in the true definition of this 'made up' term, Prince was Stanning Jesse big time lol

Thanks for the info

Jesse really had the workings of good stuff in the 80s

Ta Mara and the Seen is a former American R&B group based in Minneapolis and signed by A&M Records to capitalize on the mid-1980s chart success of the "Minneapolis sound", which included acts such as Prince, Vanity 6, Sheila E., and The Time. They achieved Top 40 success with the single "Everybody Dance", which peaked at #24 on Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1986. Other tracks include the single "Affecttion", [sic] "Summertime Love", and a ballad titled "Long Cold Nights". The album was produced by former Time guitarist Jesse Johnson. A 1988 follow-up album, Blueberry Gossip, failed to catch on and the group disbanded in 1989. Their albums are no longer in print.

Lead singer Margaret Cox (a.k.a. Margie Cox), given the stage name Ta Mara by producer Johnson, was born in Kenitra, Morocco and lived there until age seven, when she and her family moved to Minneapolis. Other members of the group included bassist Keith Woodson, guitarist Oliver Leiber (son of the famed songwriter Jerry Leiber), keyboardist Gina Fellicetta, and drummer Jamie Chez.

Heart Too Hot To Hold -Jesse Johnson & Stephanie Spruioll -2.19.1985

"And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations. They are quite aware of what they are going through..." -David Bowe

The Breakfast Club - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Label: A&M Records
Heart Too Hot To Hold
Jesse Johnson and Stephanie Spruill
Produced by Keith Forsey
Words by Keith Forsey, Laurie Forsey, Jesse Johnson, and Michael Frondelli
Music by Keith Forsey and Laurie Forsey
.

When you walked into the room
I could see you were no fool
Is that smile a sign for me?
Only if my heart could see

Can I hold you in my dreams?
Keep your body close to me
Tell myself I've got control
Even though you're hot to hold

Is your heart too hot to hold?
Just a flame that burns my soul
Heart, too hot to hold
Too hot, too hot, to hot to hold

When you walk, you walk so cool
And you know the way you move
Makes me want to take a chance
Are you ready for romance?

Will I make your body cry
Cry so loud you'd never hear
In the shadows of my life
Can I take you home tonight

Is your heart too hot to hold?
Just a flame that burns my soul
Heart too hot to hold
Too hot, too hot
Too hot to hold

Heart too hot to hold
Just a flame that burns my soul

Heart too hot to hold
Too hot, too hot
Too hot to hold

I love this song.
Just the music alone has that apocolyptic feel,

feel of danger

Sound like something that could have been in The Terminator

Image result for Jesse Johnson Free World

Nobody likes the way I hold my mic
They say it's too much like my friend
The clothes that I wear, the way I comb my hair
Makes them come out to offend

Didn't you know I knew yourself you're not too cool?
What makes you want to mess with my life?
I think I'll buy a gun, go out and have some fun
Maybe even come and take your wife
Somebody tell 'em

Have you heard? It's a free world and it's mine
Have you heard? It's a free world and it's mine

Heard you like to rock, but I'm not at the top
What makes you point your finger at me?
You don't think I'm hot, then why and try to stop
Your girlfriend from dancing to my beat?

How would it make you feel to know you're so for real
And have someone to call you a lie?
I think you'd buy a gun, go out and have some fun
But then again, maybe kiss suicide
Good god, tell 'em

Have you heard? It's a free world and it's mine
Have you heard? It's a free world and it's mine
Vandell b-b-band
Turn it up, good god
Somebody, somebody, somebody hit me
Good god, turn it up

Heard you like to rock, but I'm not at the top
What makes you point your finger at me?
You don't think I'm hot, then why and try to stop
Your girlfriend from dancing to my beat?
Ya know why? Because

Have you heard? It's a free world and it's mine
Somebody help me out
Have you heard? It's a free world and it's mine
Kiss this, uh, Gerry oh lawd
Turn on my guitar

Somebody wants to party?
(Yeah, yeah)
Does somebody want to dance?
(Yeah, yeah)

Uh, said somebody wants to party?
(Yeah, yeah)
Does somebody want to dance?
(Yeah, yeah)
Wait a minute

Somebody wants to party?
(Yeah, yeah)
Said somebody want to dance?
(Yeah, yeah)
Ho

Somebody wants to party?
(Yeah, yeah)
Wait a minute
Does somebody want to dance
(Yeah, yeah)
