Not really, the interview is pretty similar to the one she gave to the red bull lecture a short while back. Or the one she did with izotope before that. It's Susan that makes this interesting not Mike. As for "beef", I'll admit I don't really like the way he charges prince fans to listen to discussions of uncirculating material, knowing full well there are people who will pay, not because they are interested in what he has to say but because they are desperate to hear even a snippet of something new. But that's a different subject. I just find it funny that someone who claims to be a hardcore fan consistently gets the names of songs wrong, or forgets the name altogether. Maybe I should have put "amusing" rather than "annoying"

a lot of the members of the bands who recorded those songs forget the names etc...BTW, where is your better podcast

Can you point me to any interviews you've done with any members of the Prince camp? I'll gladly offer you unwarranted and unnecessary criticism after enjoying the interview.

While I appreciate the effort and certainly will listen to more interview podcasts by Mike, I must note that, on that particular one at least, I am surprised to see that, for a hardcore fans, he doesn't seem to be very aware of details regarding songs and recording sessions: he indeed makes mistakes (the mere fact that he didn't know that the Camille voice had been first used on Erotic City was quite disturbing, as well as when he believes Housequake had been released as a single or when he gets confused about the title of Our Destiny among other things).

And he sometimes asks about things that we already know, and because of that misses the really interesting questions (for example when he asks Susan about whether 8 was recorded in less than a week, something that's been quite established by now, he doesn't ask her for details about the session itself, and when she says that Prince was looking forward to go home and record that album, it implies that he had planned to do so and discussed the project with her: I think not asking about that was an awful missed opportunity: if Prince had conceptualized Madhouse before recording it, wouldn't it be amazing knowing what he had in mind, and how that project was related to the aborted Flesh project from earlier that year. Similarly, when he asks about the ICC sessions and Susan says it really was all Prince, Mike doesn't elaborate on the fact that Morris and Jesse were cowriters on several tracks, while knowing more about how those tracks came to life with those 3 individuals working together at a very tense moment in their relationship would be quite fascinating IMHO.

I also find annoying the way Mike sort of rants for 2 minutes to ask questions that could be asked in 2 sentences - even Susan is annoyed by this you can tell, I found myself thinking several times "yeah, OK, we got it, just let her answer the goddamn question!".

Now I understand that criticism is easy and why don't I make a podcast with interviews, so I wanna say I appreciate the effort given that I do not do any such thing for the community, but I think certain things could be improved. I will try and contribute to the questions polls on his FB page in the future, it would be nice though if the questions polls were announced here, as it's easy to miss them on a FB page if u're not checking it every day.

I am a little bit confused: what do poeple pay for exactly? Elite fans discussing uncirculating tapes? Are there actually snippets being played at all, or full songs? God knows I'm curious but I certainly wouldn't pay to hear fans who sit on tapes just talk about those tapes

Yeah, you pay a monthly subscription to access "premium" content, which is basically Mike and a few others discussing outtakes and playing very short snippets of at the time uncirculating shit (everybodys wants and shes just a baby were two iirc).

Anyway i dont want to take the thread off topic, i was asked if i had some kind of beef, which i dont, i dont really care. Fair play to Mike for the Susan interview, and for letting us listen for free.

This is the new cyberfreedom of speech: one can do and say as they please, but criticism is stricly forbidden, it's the new moral offense. Everyone must be free to post whatever they please on the internet in a huge orgy of self-expression and any sort of critical comment is to be punished by immediate flaming. Donald Trump is the very expression of this new trend: tweeting whetever croosses his mind and bashing anyone who dares to criticize anything he's posted.

Really enjoyed. Susan gives the best interviews.

I agree. I think he made the classic interviewer mistake of thinking about his next question while she was answering. Since he wasn't paying attention to the answer, he missed great follow-up opportunities. Like when she said "Prince loved children". I wanted to hear more about that and how she say that in him. But, no follow-up. I'm grateful for the interview. But now I think he should hold a second interview to follow-up on all the things he missed.
