Shelby J.

Wonderful anecdote from Shelby about her father and Prince...who both recently came to her in a dream. What a lovely woman. I can see why Prince chose to work wit her for 10+ years. πŸ’œ

That was a really great story. I've always liked Shelby, she seems like she's got a great personality and definitely sounds wonderful when she sings biggrin

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

Thanks. She knew him a long time (since 2006 or 2007 I believe) and seems to have a genuine love for him. I was just reading posts on Cassie O'Neal's page prior to P's death..and someone was slamming on Prince in the comments page. Shelby came on and defended Prince. PRIOR TO HIS DEATH--I must add.

Kiran Sharma's twitter page surprised me. She was his manager for five years--a job that is both intimate and stressful. And her account of P seems much more favorable than Leeds.

I personally have no time for Leeds but I would argue Prince matured a lot and the Prince of the last decade or so was quite different than the Prince that came before that. I remember reading a Rolling Stone article that had quoted from the 90s NPG members. If you ran that same story but with NPG members from, say, 2004 onwards I think you'd get a very different story.

That is why MOrris Hays is so valuable of a source. He lived through both eras. I don't know if the second NPG folks wouldn't have still had issues with Prince at times but the accounts would be more balanced I believe.

Alan Leeds is a tool. He went from booking hotel rooms to being V.P at Paisley Park to being a consultant to WB but has done nothing the last 10 years but bitch about stuff from 30 years ago.

eek wow. LR u sure are hard on the man. and he has worked but it's usually with d'angelo who can only make 1 record a decade. he has also co-managed maxwell off and on. it's kind of like the sheila e thread. people only ask him about that time and period of prince's career so that's what he speaks on.

D'Angelo and Maxwell two guys who can't records out in a timely fashion.

How come with all the crap Prince put Sheile through over their long relationship does she manage not to be negative every single time she opens her mouth. She has more to be pissed off about then Alan.

His bitching speaks volumes about him as a person and I hope he feels bad about all the crap he was saying in the last few years.

What a blessing!

This is why people from way back when should not try to define a man they haven't been close to in decades. People grow and change and that should be respected.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Yep. There's no doubt that Prince circa 2014 was very different from Prince circa 1994. That's one reason why I have little time for anecdotes from people who haven't worked with him or kept in mucn contact in like 20 years.

Leeds and his wife talked about working with Prince during the Purple Rain tour in an 2012 or 13 interview. And he ripped him a new one for his performance on SNL in 2014 on facebook. He was also interviewed quite a bit for Toure's book.

So there's that.

I remember an interview with Liv Warfield where she talked about the first time she was at Paisley. She said the minute she walked in the door Prince asked her if she was hungry and proceeded to get her lunch. I just laugh at that considering he was such a light eater. But I also think it's so sweet...one of the first times they meet and I'm sure Liv was incredibly nervous and he makes her feel right at home the minute she walks in the door.

In the aftermath of his passing we have overwhelming evidence that he was not some evil overlord all the time as some would have us believe. Just like any one of us, there were times when had bad days and times when he had to put mofos in check and I ain't mad at him for it, lol

The gifts he gave of himself and the good he did in the world far outweighed anything else IMO.

At this point I have no interest in what Alan Leeds has to say. I get that being Prince's tour manager during the heyday is a big deal but not to me anymore. Shelby's post is so inspiring and the GQ article is refreshing. Such a breather from Alan Leeds constant bitter comments in Prince's last years. I'm just over it. Especially as these stories are now coming to light of the person he's become .

I know all the great stuff he did especially his charitable giving. I hope people like Alan feel like shit for a long time. No matter what happend back in the day you keep in classy. I have no idea who would hire someone with such a big mouth and grudge holding.

You bitch about fucking up on your job 30 years ago as if your boss should have let you get away with it and just keep paying you. eek
