The original script contained a couple of anal sex scenes.
It´s been posted on the org a couple of times and I am 100% sure that anal sex was in it.

Good one disch! Thanks for chiming in with that.
I wonder, sonshine, if the script was rewritten to be less pornographic, after several better-known, more experienced, less desperate real actresses, kept turning it down.
If it was Jennifer Beals though, she's apparently a serial turner-downer…

While I don't know when this version of the script was written, it does indeed include a rough-sex scene that wasn't in the movie and the act described in it could be interpreted as, well, ...

(the script isn't paginated but the scene in question is close to the end)

I have seen an early script of Purple Rain and yeah, there is a very rough sex scene.....much more explicit/nasty than what we saw in the movie. |

Well that was interesting to read. Thanks for sharing the original script and I see it had Vanity's name. I remember that scene now with him and Apollonia and when I see the movie again, I will probably be thinking of this. Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

"…He snaps her panties in two, pulls them from between her legs. She spreads herself as he releases his pants. She squeezes his buttocks, pulls him toward her -- but Prince resists her coldly, regards her with contempt. Suddenly he flips her onto her stomach, forces her to stand painfully on her knees. He rubs his hand between her buttocks, then thrusts into her painfully, driving himself to the very depths of her…"
"…but she stifles a cry, arches her back, and meets his thrusts fiercely, moving quicker and quicker, banging her buttocks against his thighs again and again. She's drawing from him now, turning the humiliation around, obtaining all that she needs and desires. He's powerless -- her thrusts set the pace. She rises, Prince still inside her and tugs on him rapidly, causing him to ejaculate suddenly, drawing from him a sharp and sudden cry…"

That scene reads like some kind of hyperventilating Prince fan fic. I can see why it would give an actress pause when she read it.

#19 does identify Jennifer Beals as the first person to whom the role was offered: http://www.wendyandlisa.c...nown-factsThere is also info about the MPAA ratings (was given three). Guessing this was the scene "cut" to bring the rating down to R. The link to the original source is not active so can't verify the authenticity of the facts. Make of it what you will. I know. Right? I wonder if Ron Jeremy was a fan. I can almost hear that classic '70s scratchy Wah.Wah-laden "KaChowl-Wahka-Wahka-Chowl-Wahka-Wahka…" rhythm guitar background music as I read it.
What's up with all that contempt and humiliation though? Sounds like The Kid practiced the old "Treat 'em mean to keep 'em keen" approach to luv'n.
Anyway, by my estimation, the entire scene sounds like it would have only taken about 1 minute from start to finish. So who's really the "Much Too Fast" one here? ; د )…

I think it's sweet that Prince took the swearing and rough sexual scenes out of that earlier PR script. Or someone did. I guess the writers saw it differently - and I'm so glad it wasn't sleazed up like that. I don't think he saw his love with Vanity that way. He was, as Mayte said later on, "old school". Love him for that.
As for the top-posted article about the museum, it's actually the WRITER of the article with the hang-ups; not Prince. She's not a spiritual woman and so she doesn't understand WHY Prince just stared at her when she wanted to attribute mankind to SCIENCE alone. Prince was so naturally a Child of God that he couldn't hide it and was NEVER dishonest about it. In fact he was polite to this woman by not arguing with her close-minded, short-sighted, literal, tangible, physical-only philosophy. You bet he was related to God; we all are!
So you tell me who has the hang-ups!!! Prince was JUST FINE with Prince. |

It was taken out so they could get their R rating. Remember this is back in the 80s before they created NC17 and a movie with an X rating could not even be advertised in the media.
If you read what associates have to say Vanity and Prince had a wild relationship so I can only imagine what the two of them got up to. Vanity even made statements in the media back in the 80s about his skills as a lover that were inappropriate ( she said he was very good). She also said he once put her out of his car on the road in Minneapolis. They had a volatile relationship and many associates did not like her. In fact Alan Leeds described her as being very street and outspoken. Something he said Prince did not like.
Her brother-in-law has posted that they wrote letters back and forth and stayed in touch for years so I think she was that women he loved but could not live with everybody has one of those.
