Women Only Opinion: Prince and Nona Gaye 1994 Today Show

I do not want to come across as bashing Prince, and I hope it doesn't come across as such. The question is really not about him, but more about us as women. During this performance with Nona, isn't that Mayte holding up a sign on the stage? I was young once, but I don't see how they could share a stage together knowing he was involved with us both. I mean I get how people may know that a guy has more than one thing going on; but to actually like share space with that person is weird to me. Wouldn't be able to do it. Any thoughts?

they have shared the stage numerous with Prince. Maybe at some poing there might not have been anything betwen him and Mayte but, Nona should have had a hint....she was on drugs . Maybe mayte was just that, a dancer...I dont know just saying...but nona should have known something was right...

It's not the only time he seemed to have women around that seemed to be, for want of a better word, "sharing" him lol Look at the 80s for instance, Jill, Vanity, Sheila, Susannah, to name a few..We know for definite some overlapped. I think P just was the ultimate charmer who had a way of making them feel like they were special, the only one he loved. He gave them that mentality of "Who cares if he's sleeping with other women, that's just sex but he loves meeee!" Of course that can get old quick and Vanity and Susannah left because they couldn't deal with it. As Vanity said "I needed one person to love me, and he needed more"

Yep, it's always flabbergasted the crap out of me too. #1. Denial is what I'm saying. Big time denial. #2. Then being on drugs could have a significant effect on judgement. #3. Prince charming at the top of his game. #4. Youth and naivte. Those would all be factors listed in no particular order. smile

Yes, and not to mention their careers were dependent on him too. Kick up a fuss and walk out = no job, no cash, no success. They were probably scared to rock the boat.

Why do people on the org expect a high calibre artist such as Prince to adhere to the same moral standards as the average Joe? He was one of the greatest pop artists of the 20th and 21st century, he had tons of money, looked good, was always well groomed and handsome and charming, tons of talent and had a way with the ladies....why do you expect him to settle down with just one woman if thatĀ“s not really his thing?

I bet he couldĀ“ve had a much more relaxed life if he wasnĀ“t confronted with the expectations of society and some of his less understanding women.

By the way, before anybody here calls me sexist....I think the same standards apply to artistic women as well.

You canĀ“t judge such special people by your standards. Look at Picasso and all those fucking rockstars...at least Prince didnĀ“t physically abuse his ladies and did not humiliate them, except for a few rare cases.

He was Prince, the one and only. His royal badness. He played guitar.

What did you expect?

And yes, he was not only dating Mayte and Nona at the same time, but Carmen Electra, too.

And why not?

wink

I can understand the "high caliber average Joe statement", that's why my question really wasn't about Prince, but about the women who shared him. And really I can understand the sharing (to a degree, if you can accept that); I can't wrap my head around seeing the other person and working with them and holding my jealousy in tack. What someone said makes sense..maybe he told each one you're true love, that's just sex...but knowing how he placed sex on a spiritual plane, then sex also became something special. I could not have done it, share him, probably (more than likely), but I would have to have drawn the line at sharing space with/performing with them. And yes, I understand that I do not even have the physical hotness to draw a second look, but, I do/would have had the spiritual and emotional hotness. smile

I know many women who share the same guy, do nice things together (like cooking, going to the movies, parties, having interesting conversations ) and who also have threesomes together.

And a good friend of mine has quite an interesting lovelife, too.

And why separate "just physical" sex from sex as a spiritual experience?

Also, donĀ“t be so hard on yourself....IĀ“m sure thereĀ“s someone out there who finds you hot.

What is she up to these days? I havenĀ“t heard about her in ages, except for a brief photo I saw during the lawsuit against Pharrell and Robin Thicke.

I heard some nasty rumors about her drug use and its effects but donĀ“t know if there was any truth to those rumors.

I have always liked her and the music she did with Prince. Their version of 1000 Hugs and Kisses is such a great, airy, breezy feelgood song, and I think she looked hot despite her heavy drug use.

I think Prince told them both that there was nothing going on with him and the other one. They did not want to believe that he was messing with other women, even though their minds told them otherwise, so they were in denial until finally it came to a head.

Oh, I never expecxted him to adhere to any moral standards. How on earth could he when he had all that going for him and undoubtedly gorgeous women constantly wanting a piece of him. What man could resist that?

Do you know if thereĀ“s any truth to those rumors?

I hope she gets herself together with all the money thatĀ“s rolling in now.

I think that Nona, Mayte, Carmen and anyone else just dealt with Prince's lifestyle in an attempt to stay on the team. Let's not forget that all of them were trying to make it in the industry and he was bankrolling all of it. I'm not saying that the women didn't love him because we know for fact that Nona and M1 did. I also think they were waiting around to see who would be the last woman standing and nobody expected a playboy like P to suddenly get married.

I saw a brief interview with Nona after the Robin Thicke case and she didn't quite look like herself to me but she looked healthy.

I thought that Nona's drug issues were way in the past, like not long after she split from Prince. I could be wrong though, because I never kept up with her that closely.

First, both were young--Nona being younger. I guess it has something to do with their immaturity as really young ladies. Also, I doubt Nona knew he was with Mayte because when she did find out about this engagement ring she left and NEVER looked back. He hurt that woman hard. I read somewhere he tried to speak to her at a movie screening and she ignored him. I wouldn't blame her. I felt sorry for her because she was simply just young and naive and knew nothing about Prince that entire time they were together.

Good points mentioned it a few times myself. Prince was not the average guy and he knew it. These women were aware of what he was doing. Robyn Power said he had her go out and pick up women for him. What does that tell you.

But he was very well capable of settling down with one woman. He settled down with Manuela. He doesn't have to be the "average Joe" to settle. And him getting married proved he's capable of settling down--even if it didn't last a long time.

The moral of the story is.... When you are not in a committed relationship you are not getting that fulfillment your soul ultimately yearns for. Therefore happiness will remain unattainable through the searching even though it might be fun. Rock star or average Joe, you still want that fulfillment, and so you keep searching, and the fun eventually becomes the balm for that fulfillment. Therefore, through continuously searching you are only able to attain and sustain the fun, but not true and abiding love.

Maybe they didn't know that he was with the other and maybe they did and one refused to back down and was determined to be 'the one.' If it were me and I did know, yes it would bother me very much. It would have been hard to do that. They may not have known for a fact he was intimately involved with the other; they may have just suspected it. He probably told each one they were the one and they prob believed it.

I am a man and I am protesting the gender segregation this thread calls for.

Thou shalt not discriminate on the basis of chromosomes.

I've said my piece now. You may continue.

[Edited 10/8/16 19:10pm]

That may be true for a certain amount of time, maybe a couple of years, maybe five, and in some cases maybe even a lifetime together but in many cases, that yearning and longing for true love wears off after a certain time, which is probably human nature and has biological reasons.

ItĀ“s our conditioning, morals, religion, culture or whatever we want to call it that makes us believe in it and yearn for it in the first place.

I wonder how people will deal with this topic in the future, and how relationships are going to be then.
