Credits to people who didn't actually perform

I recently learned that Sheila sang background on irresistible Bitch. Wendy was credited but didn't actually perform. Any other examples were Prince gave performance or writing credit to people for things they didn't do ( especially on his own albums)?

Because Jill Jones said so?

Jill didn't even know Sheila was singing on Glamorous Life.

Sheila wouldn't sing FUCK on Erotic City but she would sing BITCH on Irresistable Bitch?

It is possible that Sheila could be singing parts under Prince's voice on the song. But that Lisa Coleman / Wendy Melvoin blend is pretty noticable. Sheila's voice stands out differently. When I hear some other parts of Prince sing (not the chorus) there is female voice there and could be there. But I highly doubt on the chorus.

who is singing with Prince on "Take Me With U"? It's supposed to be a duet with Apollonia, but I heard that someone else's voice is "blended" with Apollonia's voice...any truth to this?

I think there is a 30th Anni of Purple Rain(soundtrack) and Apollonia & Lisa are interviewed and Lisa mentions Prince had her come in under Apollonia's vocals or something like that. And Apollonia mentioned she never knew that.

Apollonia
Jill Jones
Lisa Coleman

Lol I'd bet P recorded songs so fast and was so prolific that by the time it came to compiling stuff for release even he forgot who sang on what.

I maintain Sheila E isn't telling the whole truth about the FUNK and FUCK issue. biggrin

My local radio stations even bleep when she said the F word in Erotic City.

Yeah it is common knowledge that Prince given credit to people who didn't even perform songs to help put some money in their pockets.

COLEMAN Apollonia came and saved the day. But she was not a singer. She was an actress. So the poor thing was thrown into the studio: “Here, you have to sing this.” She was like, “Oh my God, I don’t know how to sing.” And she did the best she could. I doubled her vocals on “Take Me With U” to make it sound a little better.

KOTERO I don’t remember that. But I would imagine she’s on [the song].Much of the Purple Rain soundtrack was recorded over the summer of 1983 at a warehouse in suburban Minneapolis and live onstage at First Avenue.

How many Lennon and McCartney songs were actually written by both men? Not all of them. Credit is not always as performed.

It was a mistake made, the song discussed was Erotic City
