IMO It is part of the Prince hierarchy battle of the women

Prince loved many women and married two but for some reason each wants to be the seen as the ONE

Mayte stands alone as the woman who carried Prince's babies publicly. She and she alone has the distinction of the first wife. However that does not cheapen or lessen friendships Prince maintained with the other women in his life

Prince had relationships with loads of women and from the outside looking in it looks as if they were different; some were professional, some were sexual, some romantic, some spiritual - they are all valid.

Some of his relationships lasted decades and remained until his death unlike the marriages and relationships with the wives . I think that is why there is always this push to prove how important the wives were. Neither lasted as long as his relationships with certain others.

I'm not sure how this relates to posting about whether or not she did or wanted to sell her engagement ring. But okay. We all know what he was truly committed to and that's a hard mistress to follow.

I honestly wanted to see if this was a setup to have orgers pouncing continuously on Prince's wives for one stupid reason or another. I think that kind of thing is extremely sad.

Ooops!

thanks for correcting what you meant

Who gives a crap how big or pretty the ring is. He could have stuck a rusty wing nut on my finger if it meant marrying the man! lol

lol You got that right. A ring out of a Cracker Jack box would have worked .. Because I know what the real prize is.

It was 20 some odd years ago when gold was in style and a 2 ct ring was huge.

If I was given this ring it'd be like that time on SATC when Aiden proposed to Carrie & she kept vomiting every time she looked at it. It's U-G-L-Y.

There seems to be a few threads started just for entertainment fonder so folks can sit back and watch the hairballs fly, especially concerning the exes. Whatever floats peoples boat, I guess.

There is nothing ugly about that ring. Ya'll would be thrilled to get such a ring and you know it. lol People just expect a freaking doorknob from someone of Prince's prominence. The average person can't afford such luxury.

If you're just in it for the size of the ring, then you're in it for the wrong reason.

It's incredibly ugly. It's the design & the colour that makes it so for me.

For me it's not the size of the diamond, it's the yellow gold.

But I'm not in love with the design either.

My ex husband picked a similar style.

I know some guys want to surprise propose, and that's nice but I think it's a good idea to take the gal ring shopping casually first to see her taste.

After all, she's gonna wear it.

Just my opinion.

Was this auction stopped? I wonder if this is a real auction and is it really Mayte's engagement ring?

I follow her on FB and in a picture today it looks like she is wearing this ring. Someone should check and see if I'm wrong. I don't know how to transfer that pic to here.

I was watching the auction online. She did not pull the items. This along with 95% of the other items did not sell. Once the auction time closed=all the items that did not sell appeared as "pulled". It would not surprise me if P. didn't annonymously buy the lot at a cheaper rate after the live auction closed (which is common) to dispose of them. Particularly something as personal as the handwritten notes. The entire debacle was trashy. He made a snide subtweet about it on Twitter at the time. Of course, the historical reality does not fit with the fantasy that the widow Garcia continues to sell. Hopefully, she can take the couple of grand she made from the scarves, cup & saucer, & worn out peeling rhinestone handcuffs she sold and get some counseling or at least a better looking ring because that ring was so damn fug Im sure Pimp Mama Garcia had 2 B in on pickin' that out.

What did P's tweet say?
"We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

What did P's tweet say?

This simply illustrates my point about P still being emotionally invested in MG. Otherwise he'd have been oblivious to her auction.

I didn't want to say it, I despise yellow gold. But the sentiment is very sweet and the thought is romantic.

In fairness, this was purchased in 1995, when trends were quite different than today.

Besides, I don't believe Kay Jewelers at Southdale Mall had anything other than yellow gold available at the time. boxed

Back then yellow gold was still popular. People with medium to dark skin tones found it more flattering and white gold could be mistaken for the much less expensive silver. I don't think it was until Platinum became known and respected as an even more expensive metal than gold did white gold start appealing to more people.

The swirls of that ring are so very 1970's, and 80's and those are Prince's aesthetics. I am sure she received compliments on that ring ALL of the time "back in the day".

pimp2 That's his style. Mani's ring was similar to Mayte's being a gold and bold and diamond bypass setting with a round center stone.
That means he & I would've fought over a princess cut solitaire with a dainty 1 millimeter gold band. lol

well, if he'd given them to me i would never have let them go....

but maybe mayte needed to change her life up.

i read a while back earlier this year that she was selling things in order to move on from her life shared with prince. i think that's healthy, if she needs to then she should. just my 2c

the most interesting thing are the notes. does anyone know what the notes say? i'm surprised the ring is so ordinary. he has commissioned more ornate pieces for himself as costume jewelry.

lol, you wouldn't have made the cut, Prince clearly wanted to have the last word on the hair, clothes, make-up and jewelry of his lady friends. Those that became is wife seemed the most maliable of them all. At the time that Mani was with him she was still a smitten fan and not the outspoken woman that she is today.
