Appreciation for Jill Jones debut album.

Let's express our love for Jill Jones debut album.

Each cut is perfect.

Her vocals are excellent.

The related 12 inch extended versions and b-side songs are some of the best ever released by Prince protégés.

Could you imagine a deluxe edition of the album with the extended versions, b-sides and unreleased Prince produced songs included?

Please share your love!

I loved it.

My favorite songs are All Day, All night and Baby, you are a trip.

I like Mia Bocca.

Her and David Z did a good job along with Prince with the album.

Some people don't like some of the screaming she did on some of the songs but I disagreed. She have the voice and it was on fire.

I also love 77 Bleeker Street too. Good song. It was release as B side I think. I think that song should have been release as a pop song as I feel it would been a hit I believed.. Prince once again missed this opportinity to promote that single.

Too bad the album wasn't a prior to PP. sad

She also did a lot of wailing too toward the end of 1999 extended song and I love it.

Yes, those are all great songs.

The extended version of "For Love" is awesome & even better than the album cut. Very funky!

Even the Arthur Baker remix of "Mia Bocca"
is great.

The ONLY flaw.......is that it wasn't released in either '84 (when Purple Rain was RED HOT) or '85

sad

I've been saying this for the longest time.Jill's album came out too late. She wasn't able to take advantage of the Purple Rain hype. Also,by 1987,songs like "All Day,All Night" and "G-Spot" simply sounded dated.

One other flaw with her album: Jill can sing, but on certain songs, there is too much yelling and Prince-inspired yelping going on (particularly on "All Day,All Night" and "For Love").

I think the best song on her album is "My Man",which should have been the first single, imo.

It's lovely when Jill Jones screams a la Prince. Very unique for a protege and others.

It's an absolutely great album. Like others said, a must have for a Prince fan/protege collection.

There's a reason this album, The Family, and both Madhouse albums are really the 4 biggest fan faves of the protege stuff... they're just excellent material. (I don't include The Time in that consideration because they were their own monster with their own career beyond the typical 1 album release.)

Each album has its own mood and texture. And while Jill's was released a few years later, it still seems to fit in the landscape of Prince's musical output at the time. I feel like it'd have gotten lost in the purple haze during 1984, with The Time, Apollonia 6, and the soundtrack & movie, and tour. While it sounds like it's from 1984, it also fit well into Prince's aesthetic of 1987 (SOTT, The Black Album). It encompassed Clare Fisher's genius, and even had a nod in Under The Cherry Moon.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Jill is an awesome vocalist. Hopefully, she will perform at the official public memorial being organized by Prince's family. That would be amazing.

If Jill Jones is a special surprise guest at the upcoming official memorial tribute, which lovely gem of hers would you like her to perform?
