Wouldn't it be a bit odd for the Revolution to perform songs they had nothing to do with and have never performed before?

I knew someone would say that lol
.
Why would it be odd? What band after the Revolution had anything to do with the songs from 1978-1986 yet performed them?
.
And I included people like Sheila E & Cat to possibly lead songs like I Wish U Heave/Positivity/Lovesexy

the NPG never did Erotic City or America before but they did it lead by Sheila E @ the BET tribute

Well, Prince was still around leading the band. He certainly had something to do with the songs.

means nothing.
what did Erykah Badu, Patti LaBelle, Janelle MonĂ¡e, DeAngelo, Jennifer Hudson etc have to do with the songs?

I actually really like this setlist. There's a lot of variety and creativity in it. I would be super happy if I came away from a Revolution show with these songs.

I also don't think it's a problem that they were't responsible for some of them. Artists play covers in concert all the time.

the Revolution playing songs they were never on is weird to me. why? cause they simply weren't on them lol there's enough material from 78-86 that they wouldn't need to play NPG stuff. Days Of Wild or Sexy MF without the NPG is silly. so here's a semi realistic Revolution dream set:

Let's Go Crazy > Delirious > Let's Go Crazy (coda)

1999

Little Red Corvette

Take Me With U > Raspberry Beret > I Wonder U

When U Were Mine

Visions (Lisa piano solo)

An Honest Man (instrumental)

Strange Relationship > Last Heart

Power Fantastic

Break

Controversy > Dream Factory > Controversy (coda)

How Much Is That Doggie in The Window > Lady Cab Driver > Automatic > DMSR

Love or Money

17 Days

Pop Life

Girls and Boys

Life Can Be So Nice

Break

Mountains

Purple Rain

America (jam)

My setlist only included Positivity & I Wish U Heaven (plus Planet Earth)

only the latter is considered a Planet Earth cut but Wendy & Lisa worked on that song and that album. Not to mention they performed many NPG songs with Prince between 2004-2007/2009

Fishnet Black Pantyhoes wasn't a Time song but they perform it.

But again the NPG performed songs they had nothing to do with 1978-1988

I see no issue with them doing a song or two they appreciate and want to celebrate.
If people can cover Prince's music and Prince can cover others music neither had anything to do with, why should it be weird?

I found this set list from the 2012 show.

Controversy

Do It All Night

Partyup

Let's Work

Pop Life

America

1999

Life Can Be So Nice

Mountains

Anotherloverholenyohead

Baby I'm A Star

Let's Go Crazy

Purple Rain

Uptown

I'd like to see Paisley Park, Girls and Boys, and Sometimes It Snows In April. I would love to see All My Dreams, but they probably won't do any unreleased stuff.

With Andre being there, The Dance Electric would be cool too.

To me, it all comes down to: Will they play some unreleased stuff? I think that would be incredibly cool.

NPG didn't performe 80's Prince material without Prince. That's the difference. Prince performed his own material with a new backing band.

But without Prince the Revolution would be a cover band anyway,so I guess you're right.
.
By the way I don't think w&l had anything to do with Planet Earth (the song)

They did at the BET Tribute. Songs they never did with Prince.
So if the Revolution is doing a tribute, why is it an issue?
