Robin Power - Number One

Funny what I found on YouTube.

Robin Power - Number One

The song is in the end of "Graffity Bridge", but just a snippet

Back in the days, I kept hoping to find this song ones.

Ofcourse later I found it, but never knew there was a video for it, which is a different remix.

According to Robin, because Prince met Carmen Electra and decided she'd be the Paisley Park in-house female rapper instead of Robin. IDK if it's true but it's what Robin believes.

So when's this video from? Did Robin make it on her own after she was out of the Prince scene, or is it from the time of her association with Prince (I know the track, such as it is, comes from that time)?

Okay, I'm back--just skimmed the article Bart posted. Oh good Lord. Not gonna read it all now (I feel kind of embarrassed for humanity, honestly), but thanks for the link.

"Number One" was recorded in 1989 and was featured (briefly) in the Graffiti Bridge movie.Around that time,Robin (who was newly signed to Paisley Park Records) was working on an album with her group,Robin Power and the Uptown Dames.Apparently,"Number One" was planned to be the first single.

So the terrible video is still a Paisley product, not just the song? 'Cause that video is even weaker thsn the song.

Obviously the vid is straight from the vault, circa 89-90. It's pretty cool that it reached us even if it took nearly 20 years to Robin to release it even if it's not exactly the best vid ever.

Thing is that the project already sounded outdated by 1990's standards, so I guess it was wise not to release it at the time (even though it wasn't to believe Carmen Electra could score a hit instead).

I was thinking that the video was more of a"rehearsal" and not the finished project? hmmm I can't imagine that video being released in 1990 the way it is!
