Recently I've really been digging on the songs she did with Prince and years later your vocals soar strong and true over Prince's instrumentation. I wish she would've made it big, she had such an amazing voice. Thoughts?

Once he broke off with the Revolution, all protege production went down the drain. Yes Madhouse was good, but the purple kingdom shrunk incredibly. I mean think about this, Eric Atlanta Boni & Cat jetted after Lovesexy, I read that Sheila E tried to get Tony Toni Tone signed to Paisley Park and their response was in a song: Born Not To Know, they say "Things are getting crazy, I ain't wearing Paisley..."

She was BETTER under Jesse's production AND as a Jesse protege'!!! Prince dropped the ball w/Jill Jones: Her album shoulda been released during the Purple Rain hoopla, or 85 at the latest. He f***ked around and released it in 87!!! Not 2 mention that Brenda Bennett was THE PUREST SINGER of all the 6's, and Her project never saw the light of day.....

At some point Devante Swing of Jodeci travelled to Paisley Park because he thought it´d be a good idea to work with Prince but then he had second thoughts and changed his mind, too.

If Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis had stayed in the Prince camp and if Jodeci and Toni Tony Tone had signed with him then Paisley Park could´ve become a force to be reckoned with.

But, we´ll never know...

I agree!! I have always said that Jill's album should have been ready for release in in late '84 or early '85,so that she could have taken advantage of the Purple Rain hype.Prince should have given her the song "Sugar Walls" for her first single and she would have been an instant star!

I've done a few threads about this before.Paisley Park Records could have been the Motown of the 80s if Prince had done so many things differently.He had so many talented people around him.

She fronted the band TaMara And The Seen and they released 2 Jesse Johnson produced albums in 85 and 88.

In 2003 she finally released her first solo album, called Margie's Little Demo.

A Prince-penned album was recorded and compiled in 1989. For some reason it seems WB didn't want it even through Paisley Park (pretty odd at a time when they'd release anything from Good Question to TC Ellis), and no other label showed interest after a listening party was organized at Paisley Park. The album is circulating with excellent sound quality, though. It's some sort of hard rock, a very unusual project for Prince. I don't like it much but at least Prince definitely went outside his comfort zone there

Regardless of all of this, you can still go hear Margie sing at Bunkers in Minneapolis every Sunday and Monday night with The Combo. She still sounds amazing and is a really sweet lady to talk to. I bought her Margie's Little Demo CD and she signed it and took a picture with me.

There's also an official live Dr. Mambo's Combo album but I ain't sure if she's on it.
