Any Love for the Elixir album? I listened to this album again for the first time in awhile and I have to say this album isn't bad at all. I like every song on it and love Home, Elixir, Here Come and All This Love. This is a straight up pure R&B album that if Prince sung the vocals would have been an amazing album. I can get more joy from this album than the Black Album any day.

I COMPLETELY agree. There was some much criticism on the org about this album. I put it on one night and let it play all the way thru and was very pleased and impressed. Also Josh and Cora played on this album and their playing was pretty damn good. Alot of orgers criticized them, but they were tight. i wish Prince had done his own r&b album with them. Elixer was/is a solid album.

It was a good adult R&B album - which means it was missed by alot of Prince fans because they want dance or rock and have no palette for this quality of music. Not unlike Xpectation and NEWS, it is a Prince production that is more than most common music listeners can comprehend or appreciate. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. Agreed Bria's voice isn't Erika Badu or Selena good but how many truly amazing vocalists are out there? I think her voice was perfect for that album, it brought the lyrics to life. I have done the deed with my girl to this album and N.E.W.S more than any other album. This is a baby making album. The bass lines throughout drip of sex. I think people try to compare this to the other two albums it came with and they shouldn't. This is a straight up let's get it on album a la Keith Sweat, Guy and R. Kelly. That's it, put it on, take your clothes off and enjoy this free gift from Prince.

Very chill record. 2nite used to get on my nerves, but I don't mind it now. Some decent tunes up there . Here Eye Come = For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I don't remember ever seeing much but love for it, honestly--at least from people who actually listened to it. Not "it's the greatest thing ever" love, but generally who listened to it seemed to like it pretty well. . Most of the hate seemed to come along with declarations that the "reviewer" never listened to the disc, or listened to the first 20 seconds, or didn't even download it from the site, blah, blah, blah. .

I never hated this album as much as others did when it came out.
I wasn't aware of this thread but happened to listen to it again yesterday out of the blue and it has aged well in my opinion. I like it even more now.

it always amazes me how people were big enough prince fans (still) to buy the lotusflower package yet somehow not big enough fans to listen to this album 1 single time an album which, at the end contribution here and there from cora and josh etc). the album even has a duet with prince but no, many people never listened to it well, i think they're missing out because it's a very nice listen to all the way through than MPLSound.

hmm, that is a convincing argument indeed i can see now why people wouldn't listen to the disc.
elixir. the lotusflower title disc is one of my favorite prince albums ever. i guess i just think much of elixir since i thought Mplsound was such a shitty album and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Well... no, I probably don't consider any of the protege ALBUMS better than the corresponding Prince album. BUT I often do like the best of the songs on the protege albums more than some or even most of the songs on the Prince albums. The Prince albums may be more consistent--he's willing to put some pretty flimsy things on protege albums, while he usually keeps from putting the weakest of his current crop of songs on his own albums--but he usually puts some pretty strong things on associated artist albums, too (Carmen Electra's album might be an exception). The very best might get saved for his album, but he usually puts a few pretty good things on the others. The lows might be lower on a protege album, but the highs can be pretty high--and are an important part (for me) of who Prince is--more than a lackluster track on his own album is. . I also don't think I probably agree with the idea that Elixer (or most of the other spin-off albums) are collections "of tracks Prince didn't think were as good." I just don't think that's how they work. Some tracks are mediocre "I just had it sitting around" tracks--but I don't think that's ever been the majority on any of the albums. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't with Elixer.

No, we're not disagreeing. The very best tracks from a period are almost certainly on the "Prince" labeled album. But I think all the protege albums are worth a listen (well, more than A listen), not just because they almost certainly contain some pretty good tracks, but also because they show where Prince's head is at and sometimes where he might be heading.

Actually, that's my position on it, too. So, of course, that's the single and the one I have multiple mixes of. Ah well.
