3rdEyeGirl-Band APPRECIATION

Sometimes it seems we don't give them enough credit.
Sure, they may not be the best band he's ever had. But a lot of people seem to treat them as total GARBAGE, which they're NOT. They're beautiful and not just that but a pretty awesome band with amazing talent.. And they give Prince a lot of energy and fresh ideas..
My rant is over. Disagree with me as much as you want.

Hannah is the weakest link. Poor thing follows the likes of Sheila E, Michael Bland and John Blackwell. She just isn't in the same league. Her attitude and vibe is great and very positive. Her drumming is often just very average to me.

I really like this band but Prince holds them back. They can really rock out with the best of his bands but they don't seem to put together too many complete shows. This is mainly Prince's fault though not the bands because he is the one sidelineing them with these sampler and piano medley set that kills the momentum of the shows in my opinion. The songs that they actually do as a band though to me are great!! Same goes for the album as it is prince who is making Hannah sing lead and then actually releasing it. The songs that Prince do the vocals on on PE are phenominal but there is just not enough of them. I do agree that Hannah is the weakest link but she is not terrible. she is better than Kirk and Cora but she is no John or Michael. I do hope this band stays around awhile.

I'm gonna have to agree with you regarding the sampler set. Well said. I think that he could still do piano without ruining the momentum, but with the band playing along with him. That would be great.
Hannah I think is pretty good but as you said... I believe they'll stay around for quite some time and get stronger

I've been listening to those recently leaked soundboard shows from the current Hit & Run tour ("tour"). There are quite a few moments when Ida's bass makes me stop and go holy shit! She's great.

I don't know if this makes sense, but I feel like I would appreciate 3EG if they were just Prince's unnamed band or the NPG. To pretend like they're some organic unit known as 3EG is a bit silly. It reeks of the Monkees. The three women just do NOT look like they formed an actual band and gel together. Does that make sense?

Well the least we can say is that she's amazing at drumming for a white girl... (jk.. I'm white so it's ok fellow white people)
Nah but on a serious note, she has a lot of stamina! She goes through HOURS of rehearsing and putting in work or us fans.. And when during a concert sometimes it goes on for like 4 hours because Prince and the band can do like fifteen shows in one night! lol that's NON-stop drumming (well besides the piano and bloody sampler set) so give her some credit (not saying that no one is, but just saying)
And you can argue that a whole lot of drummers that are better than her do the same but still, give the gur some credit lol

I beg to differ, you can hear where shes less powerful and starting to get tired. Not so with donna and ida...And so what she rehearses plays and rehearses some more, so does donna and ida, and prince for that matter...you dont get credit for the hours of training & rehearsing --- you get credit for bringing it onstage and not being the weak link.

Ida is cool. Great musician, and she just comes across as swag.

Donna is about as cool as her haircut.

Hanna is too smiley and preachy.

Prince is probably my favourite member of the band.

Yes I understand
Like NPG has no meaning

3rd Eye Girl has no real meaning or direction in that sense

He is trying to promote them in a way that doesn't make sense

If this band ends I doubt they would every work together again

maybe do a few things but Ida would go back to Finland or Europe

Donna would go back to Canada or Greece

and Hanna would go back and do what she does drumming but would probably

start having children

They are really good musicians
I don't dislike the band at all.

I was unsure at first but I once i saw them live, yeah I dig. They're not perfect for everything Prince does but I don't want perfect and at least they're not faceless. Although I could do with them spouting less of the transparent Prince-talk in interviews.

Seen them twice now, about a year apart. They were great to begin with and even better now. Nice to see them finally getting some love here on the org. Not sure what the hate is about but I think people are just jealous. I hope they get together in the future and write a book about their experiences. I think he will keep them around another year or two. I mean, let's face it........they are hot and they can play their instruments well.

And her singing is the worst female vocals on any Prince production in history - including the much maligned Vanity.

What is Donna's connection to Greece? (I know she's from Toronto but I don't see why you say Greece.)

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

I respect them as a live band, but their album fell short for me. Two stand out songs are not enough. The album as a whole does not come across as analogue at all to me. Hannah's preachiness is tiring, but I can tolerate her drumming. Ida & Donna knock it outta the park for me. Hopefully their next album will show some growth.

They should really just put out a bunch of live albums, I think they'd do well.
