Lets not forget that the NPG that everyone loves so much was also responsible for two of the worse Prince related albums ever Exodus and GoldNigga.

Change it one more time..

wink I guess to each their own... I listened to it once and then destroyed it, as I did with GoldNigga. The only thing that save New Power Soul for me was The One and Come On, otherwise I would have trashed it too.

Change it one more time..

3RD EYE GIRL over the NPG

In big stadium, maybe with hornz and cassandra.

And Rosie Gaines.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

3RDEYEGIRL in comparison to the current incarnation of the NPG.

3RDEYEGIRL are raw, energetic and feature Prince as lead during the live shows. Prince also appears revitalised playing with them.

The current NPG features too many other lead players and vocalists, particularly Shelby J (who is incredibly intrusive) and is now more of a revue-style band. 3RDEYEGIRL are more lean, fresh and relevant.

The current NPG bears no similarity to the '94-'95 NPG in style, tone and attitude.

I've little interest in a revue-style Prince guesting at his own concerts (while Shelby J wails and hollers over him) so I have little interest in the current NPG.

Exactly. There is a reason why Prince is currently praised in the UK. And that is not just because Prince is amazing. The girls and P are a really fantastic live band.

That's why the press is im-press-ed. They were not cheering that loud about the current incarnation of the NPG. It really makes a big difference with whom he makes the music.

3rd Eye Girl is all talent and hard work bursting and glowing on stage. I'm glad he chose for this band and does not feel the need to provide friends a career anymore. These girls rock.

And I still would think Cassandra would actually fit this band very good.

And maybe a guest appearance by Candy Dulfer.

I also think he did a great job with showing that girls have great quality and don't need to sell their souls.

Same as with Wendy & Lisa and Sheila A. Those girls were masters! I think they inspired a lot of girls to become bad ass guitar players and drummers.

You know, like the girls of 3rd Eye Girl.

I think I would like 3rd Eye Girl more if they had a better drummer. I by far am no expert but I do notice a difference when Sheila E or Michael Bland plays. They just seem more tight and powerful iin their performance. Maybe when I see them live I could get a better sense of Hannah.

Apples and oranges at best and super-overgeneralization at worst. 3rd Eye Girl have been a thing for just over a year, and you want go there? Why don't you give them a chance to get good as a group for a few years and then do a comparison between them and one of the formations of the NPG.

You call Shelby's singing wailing probably because you're not familiar with her type of singing. That kind of wailing is called 'soul'. Not every singer has that type of vocal talent and you damn sure can't buy it at the candy store. Liv's vocals are similar to Shelby's, although not exactly the same, but both Shelby and Liv have strong, interchangeable vocal skills, different from Prince's, and know how to rock a song. Donna, Hannah nor Ida's vocals are half as strong nor could they blow a song out of the box vocally, even if all 3 sang together. This is not to belittle their talent, but truth be told, neither of the 3EG trio, have strong vocal skills, they're better off as non-singing musicians. Ida has experience in playing with other members of the NPG prior to becoming part of the 3EG trio, so technically, she is still part of the NPG band, minus the 3EG connection.
