Esperanza Spalding "We Are America" Co-written by Prince

26th Nov 201310:1131 notes

"We are America", a song I co wrote with Esperanza Spalding and Prince! While recording vocals for this song, Prince sat in the vocal booth that Espe and I recorded together in. He gave us feedback and even co produced the song. His presence alone was mystical and empowering! The finished product is a video call for the closing of Guantanamo Bay. —> http://usat.ly/HYIaIY via @usatoday #CloseGitmo #WeAreAmerica #theRomanticMovement

I really wish I hadn't read this.

Why? She's so correct. Guantanamo is illegal and un-American.

I don't like the song, but I support their effort to raise attention to this issue.

Change it one more time..

Has the song been picked up in the US media and radio etc??

I don't mind the song but totally agree with the sentiment, Guanatano Bay should closed years ago, goes against all human rights principles!

No, it's not. Did you read the article?

*

These inmates are not "innocent people" who are being / have been detained. Many of the released prisoners have returned to terrorism and the number is increasing. These people are not the poor innocent victims that Ms. Spalding (and those that share her political views) are espousing. Quite the opposite. These weren't poor innocent farmers who were just taking care of their families & tending their fields and somehow innocently got detained at Guantanamo.

*

I'm guessing that if one of her relatives or friends are blown up by one of them (or their MANY FRIENDS in the terrorist networks) in the future, that Ms. Spalding might change her tune. Some people just want to believe what they want to believe even if it isn't true. Politics & "having a cause" (even if the cause is full of holes) just doesn't matter to them.

Regarding the lame stream media, they're all about sniffing Obama's (& the political left's) behind. They don't want the real facts to come out because that would hinder their agenda.

*

The article I posted was an article written by people who purposely cover what the lame stream media isn't willing to share with you. http://freebeacon.com/about/

*

That's why I posted it.

*

Either Ms. Spalding has cooked up all this on her own, or, she's heavily influenced by her political left friends (or the media). It could very well be that she just wants to believe what she wants to believe whether it's true or not. Facts (truth) just don't matter. It's all about the cause no matter how much truth is presented that contradicts her politics. She simply doesn't care to look into the facts.

*

Interestingly enough, it's leftist people like Spalding that get the media attention about their "cause". It's that kind of craziness that gets reported, put on television, on the internet etc. and people who don't want to research it glob onto it and run with it as if it were gospel. Sad but true.

Per Ms. Spalding:

*

"It's embarrassing for America, and it's not in line with our values," she says by phone from Zaragoza, Spain, a stop on her European tour. "It scares me and it hurts that my country is doing this. We don't need to sacrifice human rights and the Constitution for the sake of security. It's counterproductive. We're better than this. We have the intelligence, creativity and resources to do better."

*

This is a typical liberal diatribe. This has nothing to do with Constitutional rights. Once again liberals do not understand what the Constitution says. Only USA citizens are afforded Constitutional protections. Prisoners of war and foreign detainees are not US citizens whether one agrees with it or not. It's NOT sacrificing the Constitution to detain foreign prisoners of war. As for human rights, it's laughable because Guantanamo Bay is like a country club. They have it WAY BETTER than any road gang in GA. They don't have to work, they have athletic facilities, television, a religiously appropriate diet, prayer time, it's clean and guards can't physically or verbally abuse them in any way. In addition, they have great weather to boot. While conversely, the guards themselves are routinely subjected to verbal abuse, they're spit on, food is thrown at them, they've been spattered with feces while not being able to retaliate in any way. Nor are there any repercussions for the prisoners who do it.

*

I feel sorry for the guards. . . not the prisoners.

*

In truth, it's the ignorance in Ms. Spalding's diatribe that's embarrassing for America.

I don't want to turn this into a political debate because I know that someone will want to move this to politics. I only wanted to state my position on why I believe her agenda is a crock of poo and explain the link. Nothing more. I'm finished now.

*

Everyone can now go back to the regularly scheduled program of sniffing Spalding's farts and applauding her song / cause. lol fart

Whether or not they're innocent isn't the freaking point. The fact that they are not given a trial according to the US constitution is the point. If they are so guilty then shouldn't we have enough facts to support a guilty verdict? That's how our country has worked since its founding. It's not that hard to understand. I don't see anywhere that she says in the video that they are innocent. The point is that they aren't given a trial...usually because WE HAVE NO EVIDENCE.

And by the way, the Wikileaks documents showed that at least 150 of the detainees throughout its history have in fact been innocent people - farmers, etc. I'm guessing your right-wing websites didn't tell you that, huh?
