Vanity was the real deal. Her "nasty girl" persona was genuine. If she had stuck around for 'Purple Rain',she and Prince would have sizzled together on-screen.There was real chemistry there.Plus,a second Vanity 6 album would have been amazing! The original V-6 version of "Sex Shooter" is a masterpiece. It would have done just as well as "Nasty Girl" if not better."Vibrator" is the type of over-the-top sex song that Apollonia could have never pulled off.

For the most part,Apollonia was just a replacement, filling in for the real thing.Near the end of "Sex Shooter" when she demands "all the nasty people sing it!",it just sounds forced and silly lol It's like she was pushed into being something that she is not.But it worked, for a little while.

I agree with all of this. I love Vanity talking at the end of Sex Shooter.

New York! I want U 2 count 2 8...as soon as I get undressed, y'all clap your hands okay? headbang

That thing was fire, with the soul clap at the end.

Vanity could move, sway those hips, give those looks. She could translate the feel of the song into her performance. Apples' dancing looked like she was counting in her head, not natural.

.

True, Purple Rain would've been even more blazing with Vanity as lead. I agree, the chemistry could not be denied, as well as the conflict between P and Vanity.

.

Another thing I liked about Vanity, she admitted that she wasn't a good singer. She said (in so many words) on tv that she didn't sing really well, but she was trying. At least she was truthful, unlike some of his other proteges who sound like dying cats, but get pushed as the best things ever. Oh please. Vanity didn't take herself too seriously, she knew what the deal was. She had charisma, and charm. The way she looked, she could have had an ego the size of China, but she didn't.

t's like Prince attempted to tone down the X-rated sexiness because he knew that Apollonia wouldn't be able to pull it off.He began handing them "safe" pop stuff like "Manic Monday" and "A Million Miles".He was even gonna include "Take Me With U" on their album. These songs are so much different from the outrageous, edgy stuff that we heard on the Vanity 6 debut album.

Because sex shooter is absolutely toned down x-rated sexiness?

.

Maybe we both watched different Lake Minnetonka scenes?

.

I don't know, but I think if Apples had hypotherima, Vanity would have died during the film of that scene: TRUE STORY!

It's kind of like how Prince tried to push Andy into being the "Holy Funk and Roll to get the people up" guitar diva but since she was just a replacement filling for the real thing, the idea didn't work out too well. I think Vanity was super sexy and stunningly beautiful. Apollonia is beautiful and had a gorgeous body but Vanity was my favorite.

This is an interesting comment. Prince seems to do this a lot. Things don't work out with the woman that inspires him, so he finds someone that is a bit of a look alike and then tries to get them to do things the way the original would have.

It doesn't suprise me that Apples would think he was a tyrant. He wanted her to BE Vanity w/big boobs. I am sure that he had no interest in her artistic take on ANYTHING.

Carmen Electra looks nothing like Robin Power but Prince did replace Robin and got Carmen to record the rap songs he wrote when Robin didn't want to. I guess this is why she left his organization.

I think Manuela was Mayte's replacement but really most of them look like he picked them because Vanity wasn't in the picture. I guess he would hold a special place for Vanity since it was her who helped his look like such the ladies man after she was on the cover of Rolling Stone with him.

An orgo who went by a user name like Shango (something like that) did this great pic display on a thread and it showed the one he wanted vs the one he got to do it the exact way he wanted it done. (it was also a thread about the one he wanted to date vs the one he eventually was said to have a relationship with).

I don't think anyone is saying every single woman has that look. Just most of them.

Kim Bassinger also doesn't look like Vanity and Prince dated her.

Off topic: I read in one of the many books written about him that he wanted Kim because of the character she played in "9 1/2 Weeks".

Wasn't there also a groupie story about having to watch certain scenes from 9 1/2 weeks and then re-enacting them???

oh

But she was older than him, wouldn't happen these days. She still looks quite stunning for her age.

Kim is a total oddity as far as Prince's exgirlfriends go.

She had made a name for herself and had a fan base before she even met Prince.

I don't know if Prince is even mentioned in her wiki page, where as most of Prince's exes it is the main reason they have a wiki page.

True, in 1989 though she was hot, so the age factor for Prince wasn't as much an issue

Most of the women he dated back then were closer to his age. I think Anna Fantastic was the overt start of the "R U Legal Yet?" chicks
