Hannah as a drummer

I have read on some threads where some people have criticized Hannah on drums, and not-being-a-drummer, I 'm interested in hearing more about why people feel this way.

She seems like she can definitely play--by herself. But I'm wondering about her in a band setting. I remember Sheila E. once talking about one of the biggest challenges for a drummer is to know when to hold back--when to serve as the time-keeper and no more. To resist the urge to step out of that basic function.

Whenever I hear Prince play drums, he doesn't play like a time-keeper, but like the drums should be more than that... I kind of hear Hannah's drumming similarly as giving the drums more of a voice in the mix, rather than strict time keeper and at times it sounds like her playing is trying to keep up with the time set most often by Prince's lead guitar or Ida's bass, rather than just setting the time for the music.

I wonder what other folks think?

EDIT: This question is really about Hannah's drumming in the context of Prince's music. Not hers.

This thread should be here.... this forum is about Associated artist, not "former associated artists/lovers" so this thread is in the proper place... even though the disclaimer states that... but current associates are discussed here as well. geek

as for Hanna... I liked her when I heard her play on Jimmy Fallon's show. Sounded good to me.

I think it is harsh and disrespectful when people refer to Hannah Ford as a bad drummer. Maybe they don't like the sound of her drums or her style but she is not "bad". She is actually quite good, she doesn't set the world on fire but I guess for what Prince wants to do she is good enough. And she looks hot which must have helped along the way.I listened to some of the Dakota recordings (she was on the 18 January set) and new songs on 3rdeyegirl, and she sounds ok to me. She hits the drums and cymbals hard which in itself is not a bad thing and she can do soft but she is lacking dynamics. You can watch some of her drum clinic performances and solos on youtube and it is really apparent there. Not sure if she is indeed trying to keep up with Prince's guitar (which song/s are you refering to?), she sounds ok to me, maybe Prince is getting ahead of the beat for whatever reason? She sounds like a rock drummer to me, not jazz or funk or R&B, and I suppose that's why she is playing for Prince on songs like Bambi and not Family name.
