Who is playing w/ Morris Day and the Time these days? (Detroit show)

Just noticed that Morris Day and the Time are coming to Detroit next month. Just wondering who is playing with the Time these days?

Also, George Clinton coming to the Fox in Detroit the week after.

Would either of these shows be worth it, you think?

Morris Day – vocals
Rickey Smith – bass
Torrell Ruffin – guitar
Garry Johnson – drums
Monte Moir – keyboard
Jeff McNeely – keyboard

Orger and Time follower Rhastus knows the 411 about most of the shows, which got good reviews here on the boards.

BBP: Who’s in Morris Day and the Time now? It’s not the original members.

Johnson: The only original members in Morris Day and the Time are me, Morris and Monte. Jerome left in like ’05 or ’06 or something like that and got with his brother. You know, Terry Lewis is his brother. And he decided he didn’t want to be in it anymore so he was back in the Original 7ven. But now him and Morris fell out in the Morris Day and the Time version because of money. He wanted more money and he was making more money than any of us except Morris and that wasn’t enough for him. So Morris got him a guy he could pay $300 a show and was happy with it. So that’s been the case for the last five or six years.

BBP: What’s that guy’s name?

Johnson: His name is Sylvester. We call him Sly.

BBP: Oh. Because of Sly Stone. I got you.

Johnson: Yeah. Yeah. We call him Sly.

Beldon's Blues Point: Fro...an Johnson

hmmm I'm not sure how much money Jerome was demanding, but to me....$300 a show sounds reasonable for someone to dance around and hold up a mirror for two hours, lol

From what I remember reading here on the org concert reviews of the O7, "Strawberry Lake" and the video single "#Trendin" were a few recent tracks on their latest shows. I'm not sure if those songs are regular rewinds for the group version of Morris Day & The Time. A review from 2012: Concert Review: Morris Da...um Culture. Otherwise you might wanna orgnote Rhastus for more details, as he is an active concert visitor of their shows. Or request a recent setlist on Morris Day & The Time 4 Life , Morris Day and The Time | Facebook 1 , Morris Day and the Time | Facebook 2 , Morris Day (@TheMorrisDay) on Twitter

Thanks for the referrals. It looks like they are only doing old stuff. sad I decided not to attend this show as they are just not bringing anything new worth going to see for me. I have seen them half a dozen times now and its always the same show which is very tired to me. I am bummed as I was really wanting to go to hear the new material. Well, not all is lost as instead I bought tickets for another band so at least the night is not lost. Thanks for the info and hopefully Morris will play some new stuff sometime in the future

You're welcome thumbs up! and hope you have great time at the other band's jam. Yeah, it's been unfortunate how their planned appearings and concerts for the O7 couldn't continue, because that's where new work was being included. Imho, it's indeed worth a try for them to experience with variations in their setlist here and there, such as they did with Jesse's solo set (although his updated "Be Your Man" version could be extended with some Minneapolis synths).
