Vanity: Performance in "The Last Dragon" vs. "Action Jackson"

So which one do you think she did her best in?

For me, hands down "Berry Gordy's Last Dragon". She seemed to be more into her character in this film as opposed to her role in "Action Jackson". I don't know if had anything to do with how heavy her usage of drugs were at the time during the filming of both films, but in "Action Jackson" she just seemed not into it at all. Then again, it could had just been the awful writing and corny plot (remember, "hot, hotter, hottest"? Why Carl Weathers why??? rolleyes). Anyway, I'm just saying, she seemed happier and content in "Last Dragon" where she seemed to be "forced" to pull off her performance in "Action Jackson.

Even though both films weren't really that great, I can at least sit through and laugh my ass off in "Last Dragon". popcorn The only thing great about "Action Jackson" was Carl's body.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

There Is an Interveiw On youtube that she did with the 700 club where she talks about Action Jackson, And how she didn't want to do the nude scene and expose her boobs in the film. Her manager told her that if she did not do the scene then she would not be in the movie.

Well then that explains why IMO she seems like she's forced to act in "AJ".

Yes, it seems more like she was playing herself in A.J. but, the reality was, she hated herself. So maybe that's why she seemed more comfortable in her first film.

Did anyone see her in the atrocity that was 52 Pickup? It was a bad film all around for every actor involved, but Vanity's role in particular was horrid. I haven't seen it again in years (because I refused to ) but I just remember her dancing half naked on a bed begging for the villain to sex her up, looking coked out with the foulest mouth imaginable. I never really followed Denise's solo career that closely, but I do remember being kind of sad for her that she was acting in a role that was so gutterbucket (and looking a tad too authentic while doing it) martini

I've never seen this movie, but I remember when it was released.I don't think it made much of an impact lol Vanity was actually a decent actress, but she didn't always get very good roles.

It was so long ago that I saw it I can't remember if she was trying to get the bad guy to sex her up, or the hero (the bad guy kidnapped his daughter if I remember correctly and the hero was on the hunt to track them all down), but yeah, it was gritty and dark and violent...reminds me of little bit like something that would be a predecessor to the indie movie "One False Move"---a kind of dark ,mysterious, road movie thriller where the violence is a little off the charts. I never like those kind of movies, they always leave a bad taste in my mouth after viewing.

Anyhoo, more about the film, her other film stills from this are partially nude, so they were too NSFW to post :

52 Pick-Up - Rotten Tomatoes

Roy Scheider, Vanity, 52 Pick-Up

I know Denise Matthews must look back on this movie like "WTH was I thinking???? duh", bless her heart.

This movie was just all around bad for everyone involved, unfortunately. I think I saw it on cable back in the day on Cinemax. Roger Ebert loved it when it came out, but alas, it just was not for me. You really have to be in the mood for that kind of grime lol
