I wonder...do those contracts have a time limit? Is it legal to make it so someone can't talk about something for their entire life?

That makes me wonder if they even exist or was that just a stipulation when you were in his employ. How can you make someone not talk about a large part of their own life whether it involves you to some degree? The concept is baffling and how could he enforce it? are they allowed to talk to their personal friends about whatever happened but not to the press? What if said friends relay what was said to the press after the fact? I think they're a myth in most cases.

Nope, far from it.

James Brown was pretty notorious for those agreements, and a HEAP load of big time hollywood directors. Its part of preserving intellectual property(like how certain artists wouldn't want how their method of creating music/films/art/etc disclosed, and in this sense they serve as a protection method) but unfortunately, they could cross the bridge from protection to outright tyranny. I wish Ottie and TD3 chime in on this discussion, they're far more knowledgable of the legal aspects than me.

But I am fascinated with the process, like what exactly constitutes as a breach of those contracts, say if those who signed them talked with a family member or somebody of that sort.

As for douchbag Toure disbelief I'm inclined to think this is more of an essay than a bio(since thats his lane) but as much as I can't stand this man, I gotta give him a credit for coming up with the concept.

Just trying to understand this

So they can talk about Prince "Prince a genius" but they can't talk about "how he conducted the recording of Power Fantastic"?

How long does this go on? When they signed on/up in 1980(Lisa) and 1982 (Wendy) and other members they signed something that says they can never ever talk about 'during the employement'? ever?

It doesn't really seem like anyone follows this though from Vanity Apollonia, the Time members etc Revolution, Alan Leeds Susan Rogers etc

I would have to see how his contract is structured to know the particulars, but standard ones state that you cannot relate personal items or personal information that occurred during the time of your employment. EVER.

This is why many tell all books come out after all connected parties have departed this earth as others are not bound by the agreement so there is no worry of litigation, but say if Wendy tells something about Prince to her partner that only she would know and that person sells the story and can be traced to it.....Wendy very well could be sued for breach of contract (depending upon the terms thereof).

Exactly! But can you really trust a "tell-all"? IMO, it's about entertainment value only.

I wonder if there might be more restrictions on what Wendy can say than on what Lisa can say, since Wendy joined the band when Prince was a bigger star and might have had more complicated contracts with his bandmembers. I wouldn't assume the same rules apply to both of them.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I would imagine that is why Dez's book contained little treasures, but you haven't really received any books from others.

Before Prince was PRINCE, I would expect that WB created the non-disclosure agreements in order to protect their weird little protege. I would assume this is the one that Dez fell under.

After that may have run it's course, Prince being Prince and somewhat a quick learner with his privacy, may have copied those that were already in out there with stars like James Brown, Diana Ross, Elizabeth Taylor, etc. and locked things down more securely.

Can't say I blame him, as much as I would like to know, I would rather that come from him, or a colab with all of them participating because people write from their emotions, which is skewed.

On another note, I am reading Steven Tyler's "memoir" and I would love for Prince to write something as candid as that.

Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up
