So, I'm flying in from San Francisco for this. I'm originally from Minneapolis, actually. Where are these parties happening, and what time are they?

Im' thining about flying from SF for this too.

Trying to convince my bf to come too but might be solo. Would be cool if there were an ORG meet and greet for others who are going solo smile

NEW QUESTION: Does anyone know which hotel would be best for this:

W Hotel

The Ivy

Westin Minneaplis

or the Le Meridian?

I'm Starwood Platinum and like to say at SPG props. All look fairly close. Never been to Minny before

[Edited 2/1/12 15:47pm]

Hi Gary,

There will be plenty of Minni orgers around. Might I suggest you ask the former mod Carrie for suggestions?

You know, you could put a get together together. I'd gladly come and bring orgers with me. biggrin

I decided to stay at the W Foshay.

You're right I could Put it together but I don't know many people at the org. I guess I could organize something at the hotel. It I assumed there already was something going on. smile

I've nEver been to minneapolis before; I wonder if there are other sites worth seeing like the locations frOm the movie etc. smile

I got all my tix and travel booked (The W Foshay).

Anyone know if having a rental car is worth it? I know I can walk to the venue......but never been to Minneapolis before. Is everything worth seeing during the day cab-able/walkable? or is having a car a must? (I'm from new york so used to cabbing place but other cities don't always work that way)

No need for a car, both First Ave and Seven are pretty close

Yes, I saw that on the map smile

I meant like during the day if I want to sightsee (1st time there)..... go to other places do you need a car? In New York you can do all the city using public transport/cars. But if you want to sightseee in Minny do you need to drive? I don't even know what the sights are.

Maybe all of us who are coming in should go trek out to the lake where Apollonia jumped in (NOT lake Minnetonka) smile

A car is not necessary unless you're dying to drive out to Paisley Park. And that would be just to look at the outside – it’s not open to the public.

The light rail will get you from the airport to downtown and you can take it to the Mall of America (from downtown or the airport) if that’s a tourist destination you want to see.

You can easily walk anywhere downtown and I recommend using the skyway system when it’s cold. Skyways are elevated walkways that connect lots of buildings downtown. You can walk into almost any building in the core of downtown and find an escalator to the 2nd floor and it’s a whole other world. Shops and lunch spots and people bustling about – on weekdays, anyway. You can even download and print a skyway map to help you find where you’re going. Sadly, they aren’t open late so you won’t be able to walk through them back after a night out.

Buses aren’t as easy as a subway system, but they’re not that difficult either. Free busses run down Nicollet Mall during weekdays (the free busses say so across the top of the bus) to get you from one side of downtown to the other if you’d rather not walk. (And if you’re staying inside the “downtown zone” it’s only 50 cents.) Buses are also easy to catch to Uptown or the Walker Art Center. Any 6 will get you there; they run on Hennepin Avenue, south to go Uptown, north to get back. Bus drivers are friendly and will give directions if needed or call out your stop. Exact change is necessary, $1.75 usually, $2.25 during rush hour.

Taxis are abundant in the core, but once outside downtown you have to call for a taxi if you want one. You can usually get one within 30 minutes. 612-333-3333 is one company or feel free to use an taxi app or whatever.

Why is it "amazing"? lol It's an honest opinion.

I'm excited for the show! And I wholeheartedly agree that he doesn't need to be there for it to be a memorable night. That doesn't make it any less doubtful that Prince would appear.

Playing up false hopes for people is ridiculous. And that's all I have to say about that.

It’s hard for me to think of things to do in the winter. lol Especially for folks coming from warm places.

The weather will be warmer than normal this weekend and the little bit of snow we got yesterday may be melted so if you’ve got a coat, scarf and hat, walking the stone arch bridge is a great idea. http://stonearchbridge.com/

You can start in Mill Ruins park from downtown and go across the bridge to a cute little cobblestoned area. The Mill City Museum is also nearby and tells the history of Minneapolis and the flour mills we grew up on. http://www.millcitymuseum.org/

If you like modern art, the Walker Art Center is pretty awesome. The Sculpture Garden is free (but outside) and you can go in and warm up with the inside art. http://www.walkerart.org/

You can always head Uptown and see Calhoun Square. There’s not much in the mall these days but the area has restaurants and shops. You can take pics of the Uptown Theatre sign and say you’ve officially been to Calhoun Square. smile

Might I also suggest eating at Hell's Kitchen while you're here. Always yummy (the food is great!), but Sunday brunch in particular is a treat as there's generally live gospel. And I hear the wild rice sausage bread is amazing (I'm a veggie, so I've never tried it personall).

Actually looked it up and it's a female folk singer the morning of 2/19. Still, free live music at breakfast. smile

Ike's and Pizza Luce also do great brunches, or are good to check out any time.

Pizza Luce is hand's down the best Pizza in Minnesota but they have other goodies too.

Ike's has HUGE portions for their brunch. Huge! And it's yummy too.

Other restaurants/bars I like downtown:

The Local – Irish pub with great pub food. Get their signature drink, a big ginger, and thank me later.

Bombay Bistro – Yummy Indian!

Grumpy’s – Greasy (but good) bar food, big yummy beer selection and a decent selection for vegetarians. Get the tater tots with the spicy sour cream on the side.

Key’s – Typical diner fare, tasty and reliable. Breakfast through dinner.

There are lots more, of course, but those are places I eat fairly regularly.
