Interesting disco-y version of that song. She's still a bit green as a live performer, but she's getting lessons from the best so it can only get better with time.

Change it one more time..

I was underwhelmed. I said this before but she cant and should not perform anything high energy, it does not fit her at all. Her singing was bloody awful!

Yeah her voice did seems a little quiet at the start of the song but as it went on I thought she was superb! And she looked absolutely gorgeous singing too. Just wonder why Prince has waited this long to post this seeing as it was from the summer. Listening to the words, I guess maybe he is just missing the young Miss Allo... wink

underwhelmed I'm afraid - off pitch a few times. Does no one else think her 'stage presence' seems a bit forced. The whole 'andy and Prince collab 2012' thing is not getting me excitement

Maybe Andy needs to stick with her previous folk confused style

oh well, Prince'll is due to get bored about now

next...... lol

I was at that concert and I wasn't impressed with that performance.. I actually couldnt remember her singing that song untill I saw the video again. neutral

As some has said in here.. she is more the natural girl sitting with a guitar at a small venue without all that makeup.

Oh well still nice seeing footage from that concert it was amazing and I was up front to her/his right. headbang

I don't know if its the energy level of the song that matter primarily here. The original vocal for this song is low energy, like all of the songs Dusty Springfield sang. I think its more that she doesnt quite yet know what to do with her voice. Maybe they were afraid a slower song with an unknown like her might bore the audience so they tried to pick up the energy. Different vocal types cant do everything she tries to do here and a lot of it doesnt work. But these are things she can only learn with proper training and/or more experience.

Change it one more time..

This vid is pretty awfull and it seems like a bad choice of song/version for her. Maybe she's lacking experience, or maybe it's not her sort of material, but she sings off-key at times, very noticeably.

I loved her version of "Let's get it on" she did in Ghent during the Summer. I hope she still finds her own ground and will not be swooped away too much by Prince's coaching. Despite his obvious great talent, his "helping" of other artists usually ends in odd copies of himself, acting out stuff he likes, but are often a disservice for the artists themselves.

He likes to really mold them to what he wants, but not really taking into account what the strong points of that artist are.

He doesn't develop what's there, just puts them in a purple trenchcoat and throws them out on stage in heels, to do what he does.

None of this bodes well for Andy's future in music...if she is doing constantly doing covers of other people's music instead of creating her own original stuff like she started out doing.

Singing live usually requires using more gusto. She was bouncing around very actively in the beginning, the energy is high. I just think she looks completely ridiculous. I much prefer Andy in a small cafe, natural, with a guitar like I heard someone mention. She would have even been better off with Bria Valente's, "Sade" knack then the image he is forcing on Andy now. You are right however, she does not know how to control her voice fully. It doesnt seem as though she has the experience to host a crowd of Prince's caliber, though Prince let her. Im a bit stunned he would release such a shitty video that clearly highlights her faults more so than her better qualities as an artist. I kept asking myself "Can she hear herself?... is the music too loud?" I wondered what the reverb was onstage because she was flat and shaky the whole song. I waited for it to clear in the end but it just got worse.

Oh Lord, I didn't expect when I started this thread it would be so darned negative sad Being slightly off-key at one point is forgivable cuz she's still learning the ropes & honing her talent. I honestly thought her singing & performance was good, especially towards the end when it slowed down & the band stopped. Imo that's when she owned it, cuz she showed a lot of heart & soul at that part, displaying lots of emotion. I think she has a unique voice, kinda quirky but that's what I like. Surely to God I can't b the only one on .org who enjoyed it?

eek @sometimesIwonder

Ok, let me put it this way:

Any number of 'have a go' cabaret/drag singers in any bar up and down the land could've pulled that song off better

Andy's vocal delivery is just not all that

Andy wore out her welcome the second Prince put on that t-shirt with her picture on it.

I haven't formed any opinion of her talent yet because I haven't heard her live yet. I like that she has Prince being more free with material and digging in the vault.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I liked Andy alot and was excited about this newcomer, that was until I heard her sing while touring w/Prince. When I see videos of her dancing and singing, I literally grimace in pain and have yet to make it thru a whole video. It reminds me of nails on a chalkboard. Now, I will say that I like it when she is performing in her element, cafes/small venues, she looks and sounds great. But an arena/stadium performer and dancer she is not.

Also, the whole fb posting of Prince wearing my face on his shirt and saying he did it cuz he loved her, kind of bothered me.(ok, maybe on this one, I could have been a little jealous, lol)

The music is hard as heck, I'm not going to lie, I took a trip with the music lol

but her voice... I can hear someone elses voice on that music.

like Janelle Monae, that sounds like a song she would sing and it would be perfect for her voice

Oh well - here voice isn't bad at all, I like it, it's just that it's not suited for everything. i'm a big Ella fan, and I think it's safe to say that she was one hell of a singer. But when she started doing "pop" material somewhere in the second half of the 60's, to get with the times, it didn't work well.

So, it's not so much that Andy isn't talented, you simply can not expect people to be good in everything. I love her version of "Love is a losing game" and rated far better than Shelby's wailing version. But Shelby would have been better for "The Look of love".

This is just God awful. I couldn't even stomach it past 1 whole minute. Her voice was off, and the band was decidedly UNFUNKY. Who the fuck told Prince that arrangement worked with that song? See, THIS is why I have no plans to see him live anymore, even if he were to play in my backyard. This band is just rubbish, and he's damn near killed his "live" reputation in my eyes. His best performing days are way behind him, if he thinks THIS was worthy of a web release through her FB page.

As I posted earlier I can't remember she sang the song and I was standing right next to her at the end of the platform and I 2 find it awful to listen 2. But for the rest of that concert - it was pretty damn good and Prince and Ida were both funky that nite.

She has a really nice voice but she shouldn't be singing at such big concerts. And she should be singing her songs and not doing all these covers.

I saw her "singing" this on YouTube over the summer, and made a comment about it then. Her voice was all over the place, and not good at all. confused I'm not surprised by the replies.
