Would a Madhouse reunion work?

With 2011 seeing the Time & Family reunite would a Madhouse reunion work in 2012?

Well, nothing can prevent it but which Madhouse would it be?

The official band from the SOTT Tour, i.e. Levi, Fink, Eric and that John Lewis dude on drums?

The unofficial "Madhouse quartet" i.e. Levi, Eric and Sheila (the 4th member was Prince so I guess Fink'd have to replace him)?

Not to mention that the 1993 NPG line-up could claim the name as well because of their unreleased Madhouse album.

So yeah I guess it could work because whatever the configuration you choose we end-up with a great line-up, but IDK if they'd dare using the name "Madhouse".

Well if I remember correctly the Family Jamm line up was Shelia, Eric, and Fink at least. So around those three, with additions, something could be done. However I don't know if Shelia would be up for it. So the next option would be the "touring"/video version of Madhouse which would be Eric, Fink, Levi and John Lewis.

I never really cared for Levi as a bass player. But in this instance it would work I guess.. if he was up for it. He has stayed away from the camp. I would add Matt Blisten to the line up just to spice it up. I always wondered why he was never added anyway.

I believe fans would respond well to a Madhouse reunion of sorts. Depending on who is involved. I don't think the '93-'94 NPG version of Madhouse would work though.

As for a reunion? I wish they would, in any of it's member configurations.

I don't know any facts but obviously the only reason Atlanta was left away is because, for some reason, Prince didn't want any trumpet on these tracks.

This being said, Eric said that Atlanta has completely (and willingly) retired from being a musician after the Lovesexy Tour, and that he's now living a "normal" life, with a real job and centered around his family. Has he even kept playing the trumpet just for fun and could he play it again if he hasn't? IDK. But anyway it's quite unlikely that he would want to.

Agreed, although I think Prince was the initiator and brains behind it, so I doubt they would club together on their own....they are not as personality driven / as well recognised as members of The Family and The Time etc....

They threw a snippet of '6' into the performance at joe's Pub and it fit perfectly!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Well in the early 90's Atlanta was "teaching music" at Ga. State University in Atlanta. Not sure if he's still there.

That may be so. Fans would look for Eric and Fink if anything. Maybe Shelia. But here's an interesting fact people tend to overlook. They have 3(4 if u count 24 twice)albums. 8, 16 and two configurations of 24. It's not like there is a shortage of material. They could do a "32"

I think if the opportunity is presented they could deliver. Will it be as big as the Original 7ven or Fdeluxe...prob not. People are more accepting of vocal music as opposed to instrumentals. But i think if they did something the response would exceed their expectations.

Hell get ?uestlove on drums...

I didn't know about Atlanta, thanks 4 the info smile

There actually are THREE 24 albums: the 3rd one was recorded around 1995 with Eric on sax and unidentified musicians (possibly only Prince). Only 2 tracks have been released, both incomplete (one in a NPG Ahdio Show and one on a rare promo sampler), and both are jazz versions of Kamasutra tracks, which might indicate that the whole album was a jazz version of Kamasutra.

Now I don't think that legally speaking, anyone would be allowed to use any of the unreleased Madhouse tracks, though maybe they could if they do it strictly live: I believe that it's illegal to cover an unreleased track without the composer's consent (correct me if I'm wrong). Therefore, a 32 album would have to be new tracks, composed by the musicians involved.

jazzz

Reunion would be great, especially if they would make a new record...Madhouse 32.... no smooth jazz as on Eric's PP solo albums, but electro-jazz-funk as on 8.

I know it has been argued concerning The Time & The Family that without Prince they don't exist, and I see points of both sides of those arguments, love The Original 7ven, and am interested in, but haven't picked up yet, fDeluxe...

However, concerning Madhouse, Madhouse IS Prince. Without him it truly is pointless.

That said I would love to see Prince do a new Madhouse project, ESPECIALLY if he hooked up with any of the old line-ups to do it.

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

The 3 bands existed as live acts.

None really ever existed as such in the studio without Prince, except for one half of Pandemonium.

So I guess the only of these 3 bands who can claim to have been something else than Prince is The Time (though for half an album only). The Family members (no pun intended) aren't really more legitimate than Madhouse members when it comes to their album.

Now I think great musicians wanting to do a record together is cool, no matter what their past history is, so both The O7 and Fdeluxe were good news, and a Madhouse revival (which would have to call itself something else) could hardly produce anything but cool music smile

And with the Mazarati/The Secret reunion and the Revolution reunion, who knows what's coming next?

Now I wonder... How will Jill Jones do a Jill Jones reunion? lol
