See, now I like it better in your second post when you said "others" instead of Prince. At least in that post you pretended to know and care about any artist other than Prince. #putdownthatpurpledrank biggrin

Did I state something untrue about the comments made on this site regarding setlists at Prince shows?

You just have Prince perpetually on the brain, to the point that you steer every conversation back to something regarding Prince. This topic is not aout criticism of Prince's setlists.

Oh and I'm listening to the boot of O7 at The State Theater and I've got to tell you they don't sound bored to me.

So Prince should be playing the hits at his shows as well(which he does) and not be judged by it so harshly. Yet he gets bashed for it on here all the time.

If they don't like it, they don't have to go. Prince is making his living. Why would he perform a bunch of obscure songs from out of print albums, that hardly anyone bought in the first place? That's bad salesmanship. lol If Prince did that, he'd be a cult act today with a small audience. He wouldn't make enough money to support his lifestyle. As far as the general public goes, Prince is an oldies act. When The Police and Genesis did reunion tours a few years ago, they did not perform one new song, nor did they record any.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I'm not disagreeing with you. Actually you've said exactly what a lot of orgers have said and then get chewed out for accepting it and being sheep.

As for the "if they don't..." part, my sentiments exactly!

Even if they got up there and did three songs from Condensate,it wouldn't make a difference in the sales.I keep saying this but some of y'all don't pay attention: The only artists who sell alot of CDs these days are young acts and certain rappers. When was the last time you saw an 80s funk band have major success with a new CD? How many decades has it been since that has happened?

Yep... nothing GOOD could EVER happen. It's not possible. There is no need for any musician to ever do ANYTHING once they are over the age of 30. They will SURELY FAIL. HAHA. SoulAlive has figured it all out,

I'm just being realistic rolleyes You tell me....when was the last time that an 80s funk band had alot of success with a 'new' CD? hmmm Hell, even Prince has trouble reaching gold status with his own CDs.That's the new reality. Some of y'all need to stop obsessing over record sales.

For the most part funk was never a really big seller. It wasn't mainstream, it mostly sold to the black audience in its heyday. There were a few that had some Top 40 pop hits in the late 1970's when it was lumped in with disco. But the majority of funk acts didn't cross over.

Precisely nod and The Time never had 'Thriller'-like success even in their heyday.Don't know why some people expect them to have it,now.

Funk that had mainstream popularity usually were by pop groups with a funk influence like INXS, Duran Duran, Wham!, KC & The Sunshine Band, or Red Hot Chili Peppers. Bands like The Ohio Players, Funkadelic, War, and The Isley Brothers briefly had some crossover album sales in the 1970's. James Brown mostly crossed over in the 1960's. Other bands that started out funk, became big when they switched to a more pop sound, like the Commodores and Kool & The Gang. The Time crossed over due to Purple Rain movie. Before that, they had a strictly R&B audience. It's like LTD only recieved R&B airplay, but Jeffrey Osborne solo crossed over to pop.

Anybody can say things are impossible, until someone does it. So what? I think the real point of what they were doing was to realease a high quality product and establish the O7 moniker in the mind's of Time fans. That's why they are playing the Soul Train Awards. The real challenge right now, is for them to tell people that they exist and that they have a new record out.

Play a new song and promote the CD. Playing the classic hits is confusing and doesn't lend credence to the name change or what it represents. I want to believe that the O7 are going to make more CDs but this isn't instilling hope in me. Fdeluxe played more than half of the new CD at their live show while still acknowledging their past. Susannah said this is just the beginning and it's a long road. Bring forth the music!

They are playing #trendin within the medley. Were it up to me they would play only the new songs and promote the new record. But they are also trying to set up a worldwide tour so they are playing the hits on the tv appearances as sort of a way of reminding audiences and promoters of who they are and what they do.

I love the new CD, but I hardly think anything could make it sell. U2 barely sold a million of their last album with tons of promotion in the US. Still, U2 never resorted to medleys. Medleys are short cuts taken by those who are lazy. It kills me to see the Time do this. I thought Prince was crazy to do medleys, but he's crazy anyway. At least with Prince's Lovesexy era medleys, the groove was out of this world. By the time the 1997 Jam of the Medley of the year tour hit, the shortened songs had little focus or effort.

I think the Time will still be half decent with the medleys, but it is still playing a weak hand. Medleys are almost always things old washed up artists do. The Time may be old, but they don't have to act like it.

So now it's medleys that's the problem. Oh and age too. Next we'll get laurarichardson in here to say they are too black. They should all just curl up in a ball and die because they aren't 21 year old rappers. Give me a break. They are working their plan and I believe the best is still to come.

I've seen acts in their 60's play 20 full length songs giving all that they have. The Time are in their 50's and don't have to stoop to this level. They could play 5 of the new songs, and 15 of the old songs, and do it all in 2 hours or less. I will still go see them whenever I can, but I'm not going to over hype or praise them if they do half ass medleys. I believe in giving honest opinions. There are some here who would go to a Prince show and love for Prince to let Shelby and Andy sing 10 songs, and have Prince only sing 3 songs, and they would say how great a show it is. I won't do that. If the show sucks, or if the show is just average, I will say how I feel.

The Time can be the best over 50 band in the world if that's what they want. If they take short cuts, they are still among the best, but simply it shows they are not as hungry. U2 may be old and fat, but they have played 15-25 full length songs every single night since 1980. Their passion and hunger hasn't changed from when they made a few thousand dollars a night to now, when they typically make $4 million filling a stadium.

^^U2 has a lot more material than The Time. Michael Jackson always performed Jackson 5 era stuff in a medley. When was the last time he did a full version of ABC? Stevie Wonder does medleys of a few songs too.

okay ummm can i reign this in just a little? it's a tv awards show and not a full blown concert by the O7. there were giving 5 mins 2 do their thing and they did it. now if this was a concert, everyone has legit claims. but it is just a awards show

btw watching it right now and the 07 did the soul train scramble board again doing a reminder of who they were and morris saying that their new album is called ..CONDENSATE

so they are doing their thing promoting

keep it up fellas

and i'm looking forward to this weekend with the 07 taking over over centric! woot woot!

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

So they played a medley of Jungle Love - Trendin-Cool- The Bird. The audience was on fire as the band left the stage. On the red carpet, Terry said he was wearing purple as a shout out to a friend, then waved "hi" to the camera. They were featured throughout the show doing one thing or another. It was cool to see Monte Moir and Jellybean chilling in the audience watching the rest of the performers. It's going to rerun tonight on BET and probably again and again throughout the week. I liked the part at the end of The Bird where Morris says "We BACK y'all!". Cool.

The biggest crime which we've heard multiple times is that even their new tour is all of the old material and the only song they do off of Condensate is #Trendin. As someone who has seen them 4 times in Atlanta alone, I was very disappointed to hear that since I've already seen that show many time. Albeit that these are all of the original members playing it, it's still the same show. It's just disappointing. sad

See that you have the BET link also. Sorry about that. Here's a 2nd link then.
