Some of you agree. Some of you disagree. That's fine.

But those who disagree are in DENIAL that this might even be the case.

It's cool. Prince is our hero. None of us want to associate him with being a "girl". And why would we? No matter how effeminate he may have been, or currently may be, he's still "THE MAN" to us.

But admit it... stretch or not. Prince is the Party Girl. He's the "host with the most". He said so himself in Jam of the Year, and I think that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis decided to "go there" in an unassuming, yet obvious way.

There's just TOO MANY COINCIDENCES in this song, and musical associations.

They wrote the song. They changed the sex. Period.

It's about Prince.

The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

but DAMN its hard!

look at this nugget

She turned the party out (Prince was excited, and did a great job with the Time project)

Actin' sweet and innocent, that's part of her mystique (Think of Prince on American Bandstand!!)

But underneathe it she's a closet freak (Do I really need to explain who might easily be considered a closet freak... or perhaps "control" freak???)

lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

prince "was excited"

Toast to the party girl (A toast/thanks to Prince for putting the Time project together)

Come on, let's party

(Before I continue... think "Party til it's 1999"... or Party-Up... or Party Man. How many songs has Prince referred to partying??? lol)

Oh, I like ya exhibition baby

You done caught a groove that's cool (Morris liking what Prince has put together. "Cool" might even be a direct song reference!)

Wherever you wanna take it honey, I'm gonna leave that up to you (Needs no definition. Prince was the producer)

lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

OH SHIT LOOK IM SORRY...im done

your right its OBVIOUSLY about prince

(and pixies and the assasination of JFK and the illuminati)

I didn't even associate "closet freak". I was associating "freak", as in CONTROL freak.

Looks like you're reading into things on that one. But nice job. I applaud you. I don't think Prince is in the closet. I think you're reaching there, though. Just my opinion.

And I like the fact that you disagree SO MUCH, you've come back and posted now about 12 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must be something that's intriguing to you too.

Get out of denial, dude. Stop acting like this is some ridiculous notion.

And I like how you're trying to speak for everybody on the ORG! Some agree. Some disagree. End of discussion.

Obviously you disagree. Move on....

Let me play devil's advocate here. If this song simply is what it appears to be on the surface then someone please explain to me how the sexy school teacher type turns into a musician with the following verse if the song is to be taken literally: "Girl, you are the party superstar YOU LOVE PERFORMING YOUR GREATEST HITS You're so amazing, so Amazing How did you get so gifted" If "greatest hits" is a metaphor for sexual acts (maybe) why is this the ONLY metaphoriacal passage in an otherwise totally literal song??? This verse just stands out as odd.

Still no thoughts???

To the OP: I find your break down of the lyrics interesting.... and I don't dismiss the possibility it is about Prince.

If it was written about Prince it is a very cleverly written song. Jam and Lewis have talked about how they talked to Cherelle and Alexander about anything and everything... and through those casual conversations, Jam and Lewis wrote hits.

So really, who knows? shrug Maybe they were shooting the breeze with Morris and reminiscing about the old times and someone compared Prince to the "back in the day" party girl type.

The genesis of creating a song is truly amazing and can be unusual.

THANK YOU!!! That's ALL I'm trying to say! smile

I truly believe it's a "reminiscent and celebratory" song. Sure, it's a bit of a dig, but why not! Prince deserves it.

If it IS about Prince, I think they did a great job with it. And who's to say that they weren't going to have it called Toast to the Party Man, but because they couldn't use the name The Time, they changed it up a bit.

WHO KNOWS???

Either way, it's a VERY good song. And to me, it makes more sense with it being about Prince, than it does being about some party girl who wants to "train the whole 7", and so they're going to make a toast to her.

There's TOO MANY coincidences in this song.

Hi,

I don't think this song is about Prince. Regardless of what ever competition (if any) the Original 7 are in with Prince, referring to him as a "party girl" seems far-fetched.

It might not be distorted but they sure did find the most camille-sounding girl they could for the part.

Hey Cataclizm, I don't think the girl sounds like the Camille voice, but I do think that the way her voice is spoken, is in the same manner of classic Prince-speak.

"What is your desire".

Think Scandalous. Think the scene where Prince and Appollonia are in the basement in Purple Rain. Think about the "mystique" that Prince is known for. That line is spoken in the same exact manner of classic Prince.

I finally had a chance to hear the song. I am surprised that no one else mentioned how the song sounds familiar to Baby I'm a Star.

It is just different enough to probably pass legally...but the piano riff is very noticeable and the end reminds me of how Baby I'm a star ends.

I am totally convinced that Prince was the inspiration of this song.

The Baby I'm A Star reference was brought up in the beginning of this thread, in the very FIRST post.

I am sure this song is some sort of a reference to Prince and the Purple Rain era.

A lot of you want to laugh and dismiss MantuaPharoah's theory but No one has even attempted to explain a very odd passage in this song. Again I pose the question, if this song can easily be dismissed as not being about Prince in any remote way then someone please explain to me how the sexy school teacher type turns into a musician with the following verse if the song is to be taken literally:

"Girl, you are the party superstar
YOU LOVE PERFORMING YOUR GREATEST HITS
You're so amazing, so Amazing
How did you get so gifted"

If "greatest hits" is a metaphor for sexual acts (maybe) why is this the ONLY metaphoriacal passage in an otherwise totally literal song??? This verse just stands out as odd.

Remember Prince has stated that Let's Go Crazy is a song about heaven and hell NOT partying...so who's to say that THIS song has NOTHING to do with Prince?
