Misty Copeland's "A Day in the Life Of" Video

I loved this (except for the ads, of course). Misty and Prince would make a great looking couple. And they are both passionately dedicated to their respective crafts. There are a few glimpses of Prince, but nothing new if you've already watched the Lopez appearance. She's amazing!!

You're welcome! Prince has done a great thing for this lovely artist and the ABT. I'm pretty sure he catapulted her up the career ladder a few notches. She's absolutely darling. In an interview with Madame Noire she is asked if they are dating...see her response here:

I saw her on a morning show promoting this a few days ago. Such an inspiration for little girls of color everywhere. It's awesome that she is getting so much more exposure now.

That was posted here a few months ago. She clearly respects Prince and he obviously felt she was worth showcasing.

Her poise and focus is admirable and I wish her every success.

I feel the exact opposite. After seeing this, I hope see continues on her path. I'd much rather see her doing what she's doing than running up behind Prince and dancing in some incarnation of his current band. She is an inspiration and a force of her own. Prince has done what he is going to do. She still has other levels to get to. I wish her the best. There is no way she would get there behind Prince. Prince doesn't like anyone to get more attention than he does and eventually, he would undermine her career on some "don't I make you happy?" b.s.

Plus, he's damn near twice her age. They are at different stages in life.

Thanks for posting the vid. That was cool to see. It was good to get a clear picture of her personality.

I see your points. The age difference is not so much a problem now (he's a VERY young 53 yo), but could be if they were in a long-term relationship, e.g., she would still be a young and vital at 40ish, while he would be 70ish. Relationships with huge age gaps have been known to work though. Look at Clint Eastwood and Dina, who have a 35-year age gap.

After watching the video, I don't see her putting her career second to anyone, or getting lost in a relationship. She has such a strong sense of self (unlike some of his amours), and she is focussed on her craft to the extreme, like Prince. They are a good match in that sense.

I seriously doubt he's some kind of personal dictator when in relationships with women...that was either in the past or based on rumor and hearsay, imho.

It's 2011, and he's nothing if not 'au courant'. And kinder, gentler...

LOL. If true, and she actually did that, what does that say about Carmen? It says as much about her as it does about Prince! I only believe what I see and hear with my own eyes and ears ...if there's a video of Carmen saying this, and I can hear it in the full context of her entire statement, then, and only then, will I believe. I've been burned way too many times in the past with 'facts' that are anything but. Nothing personal against you. You raise some valid issues about such a (hypothetical) pairing.

This I believe (saw her talk about it in an interview in Germany). Is he like this today? I guess I would be surprised if he is still THAT controlling. He's talked about his 'mistakes' with Mayte...said he had to learn how to back off and not be such a dick.

Where did you read or see these statements from Prince and Mayte. To my knowledge, Mayte has only talked about the phone issue in a printed article. So, although I tend to believe the story, I have not heard that anyone saw her or heard her actually say this. It would lend much credence to the story if such an interview exists. Links please?

Also, when has PRince ever admitted to mistakes he's made in a past relationship. In print or otherwise. ONce again links please.

Thanks! biggrin

There are lots of keywords in the posts. Google? I do not remember where I saw Prince say that he had to learn not to be so possessive of Mayte. I think it was a talk show interview. I would not characterize what he said as an 'apology'. More of an explanation...and an acceptance of how he used to be, and how he learned from that. It wasn't a negative thing.

There are lots of keywords in the posts. Google? In the Germany interview, she said "I don't call him" in response to a question from the interviewer. The interview was done shortly before their wedding.

Here's a print interview....

I do not recall where I saw Prince say that he had to learn not to be so possessive of Mayte -- I think it was during an interview (so would be on video). I would not characterize what he said as an 'apology'. More of an explanation...and an acceptance of how he used to be, and how he learned from that. It wasn't a negative thing.

You'll have to hunt these dogs down yourself. There are lots of keywords in the posts. Google? The Mayte interview in Germany is on YT. I do not remember where I saw Prince say that he had to learn not to be so possessive of Mayte, but he absolutely did say that. I think it was some talk show interview, but I really don't recall. I would not characterize what he said as an 'apology'. That's your word. More of an explanation...and an acceptance of how he used to be, and how he learned from that. It wasn't a negative thing.

I know about Google. But still thanks for telling me just in case I didn't know.

I have read the article you are referring. You stated that you SAW Mayte say this in an interview. So I assume you mean you saw it on TV. Right? Link for the transcript, or the actual video please, thanks. You see, that article has been retracted by Mayte's PR as a bit of an exaggeration and words out of context.... but of course they don't tell you which parts were exaggeration. That is why a VIDEO of a spoken interview would be really interesting to see.

I would not characterize what he said as an 'apology'. That's your word.

I never wrote the word "apology". Please re-read my post instead of skimming it. I used the exact word you wrote, "admitted". Once again, I have never heard or even read an interview where Prince "admitted" any shortcomings, mistakes, or regrets on a past relationship... love relationship, friendship, or business.

I would like to read it.

Not challenging you, I would really really like access to these interviews you have read and viewed.

thanks biggrin

Look up the Mayte interview in Germany on YT. She says (live and moving), "I do not call him". I thought there was more to it, but that is it. I don't speak German, so I do not know what else was said.

If I can find links, articles, and reach conclusions, so can you. I summarized what I read or saw... re Prince and what he said in response to being asked about his 'reputation'. I try to look at only reputable sources, but in the end, some of it has to be taken on faith that the reporter was trying to do a good job. I don't look at sources that I know are junk.

If Mayte's PR refuted the Daily Mail article, then bully for them. But I would need a link (preferably a video) before I would believe THAT story.

Generally, where there's smoke, there's fire, and I tend to think he WAS controlling and overly so, in his relationship with Mayte.

Hey, not challenging you either, but I would really appreciate a link to all the sources (preferably a video) of Mayte's PR person refuting the Daily Mail article.

All celebrities 'edit' their stories through their PR people once they realize that they should not have said something, LOL. My guess is she was ordered to deny that by Prince, or his lawyers. Second thought, skip the video link. I don't need it. LOL...

Here's another reason I believe the Mayte story:

I believe Mayte's story according to the article as well. I would like to see her SAY this, so that stans of Prince can't blow off the story. I don't have a video link of PR denying the story because most PR's do not call a news conference to deny a misquoted story. They put out a press release.

"I do not call him"... interesting, yet not as provactive and outrageous as that magazine article that Mayte states "I'm wasn't allowed to call him".

And, sorry, I can not believe that Prince has ever admitted (your word) that he did anything short of perfection in his relationships. I just can not believe that. disbelief

The only reason the interviewer would have asked that question is because of the rumor that she wasn't allowed to, don't you think? And the way I see it, she corroborated that, with the "I do not call him". She goes on to say "I do not have to", but that's just fudging, to my mind. It's a silly interview that was only interesting to me for that one statement: "I do not call him". What fiance never telephones her husband-to-be????? IMO, the PR 'correction' was damage control.

I have read a lot of interviews (print) and watched a lot of videos of Prince in the past few weeks. Prince admitting that he had to learn to give Mayte more space was mentioned (by him) somewhere among all that media. I am not sure why you find that so unbelievable. He's very human. It's not his job to go around explaining his personal life to the public, and I doubt that he does that that often, but the exchange I either read or saw was credible.

You think he would only admit to perfection in his relationships? I find that unbelievable. What about an interview in which he said he's developed musically and is now embarrassed by the way he played during the early part of his career?? Because I read that too -- another credible source. He's also said he wouldn't change anything...because where he is today was built on the foundation of his musical past.

Out of all of this research, what I am coming up with is that he is a very likeble man, who is a work in progress (though I think he's pretty close to perfect these days). Yes, he's a God in the World of Music, but in every other respect, he's human.
