No offense to Cat but I hardly think she is "modeling" , she's way past her modeling days. More like she paid a photographer to photograph her hoping to garnish some business.

Actually designer Richard Hallmarq got into contact with her specifically to show off his new fashion line. This was pretty amazing because no one knew what had happened to Cat, and he was somehow able to track her down.

Richard designs clothes for many Prince associated artists, and is a friend of mine. He's done work for Ingrid Chavez, Maneca Lightner, Brownmark, Rhonda Smith and he's currently creating clothes for the background singers in Prince's band.

I was there for Cat's modelling gig. I can say that she didn't pay anyone to do that. She was the one who was paid.

Cause they are like family? I don't know. But you are right, why do they go back? Better question: Why does Sheile E. put up with his crap? Reading her recent interview offended me. The fact that she puts her entire schedule aside for the "possibility" to play with him is sad IMHO.

There seems to be some dysfunction on both sides of the Prince/W&L relationship. You can ask why they go back, but you could also ask why he keeps calling them to do things when he also keeps threatening them with legal action.

As for Sheila, I wonder if she gets paid for her W2A appearances. Considering she's just "on call," it's not like she'd be on the regular payroll.

maybe the real dsyfunction is with the fans and the problems people think exist really dont. cuz if all the crap people on here say they heard from a bird is true y in the hell go back?? eslia came back almost 15 yrs later 2 now be his backup singer, rosie comes back when he calls. i talked 2 levi seacer on facebook and he told me the media lied about bad blood with him and prince, he told me he still talks 2 prince and they plan on workin 2gether in the near future so idk

Uhh, I was there when Wendy made the comment. It was at on of their concerts. Regarding Sheila, she's the one that shared their "odd" arrangment. So, in these two cases, I wouldn't say it's the media's doing.

It goes to the dubious nature of everything that comes out of Wendy's mouth as far as I am concerned.

Surely Prince planned it all, starting way back in the 60s when he made sure the Melvoin and Coleman families became friends and began to plot how he could one day ensure Pops Melvoin was installed in NARAS. And then of course Prince was brilliant enough in the 70s to hire Lisa so he could get the best early angle on Melvoin's daughter.

Surely, that is the only answer. wink

I read somewhere a while ago that Tony M works as an accountant. Out of work musicians/musicians without consistent work do struggle, even when they get some paid work at festivals, small clubs or as sidesmen. I know a few in Britain who get by on govt grants. It can be tough sometimes

I would say they Facebook for a living, but that would be rude.

I think we all know what Wendy, Lisa and Sheila have been up to, they've been able sustain themselves as musicians, love those ladies, but as far as I can see, all of Prince's ex-bandmates/proteges are still active in the music community, just not to the degree they once were, fame doesnt last 4 everyone, but the ones that had talent, are still great musicians.

I think she was referring to situations like the Planet Earth cd, where Prince would request help, she'd end up on the records, and there wouldn't be any paperwork, nor would it blossom into any future potential like she hoped.

The payday would be getting to negotiate a reunion, or produce his next record.

Wendy and Lisa came from fairly well established music families. They would never be financially dependent on Prince.

Sheila E. was a session and performance percussionist for a lot of big names before joining Prince, and she can make a living doing that. She was just on American Idol's finals, and recorded with Bootsie Collins.

The famous story is when Prince first met her, and wanted to hire her, he couldn't afford her day rate.

So add her solo shows, and shows with her family, and she's secure. The problem comes when Prince pops up, and he's not giving her a block of time scheduled, so she has to start turning down her stable bread and butter, turning down opportunities, and then ends up sitting home.
