Jill's Shades

Hi all,

Long time lurker here - this is a great forum and always full of interesting discussions. With that out of the way, would any person in here be able to help me? I'm trying to track down the type of shades that Jill Jones wears in the Automatic video. I'm a big fan of Jill's look during this era.

Here's a screenshot below:

They're not Wayfarers are they? I don't think they are... I think they're the same shades that Neil Young's wearing in this video:

No brand visible, so I don't think they're Raybans. Something generic?

Any help tracking them down would be very much appreciated! Thanks guys!

i had a pair of prescription Raybans that did not have the name on the side. So they could be Raybans.

also there was a brand that was popular back then called something like vuarnet...?

Both Rayban and Vuarnet were popular sunglasses in the 80s. But it's entirely possible that these are knock-offs - ie, not authentic Raybans. (Even then, they were rather expensive.)

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Fantastic, thanks guys.

Vuarnet did a couple of models in the 80s that look very similar to what Jill's wearing.

I'm pretty certain Neil's wearing these:

That's the modern equivalent that they sell. Jill's probably wearing the 1022, another modern equivalent of a vintage pair. Apparently they used to go under the model names 006 and 003.

Just ask Jill. She's really accessible via her Facebook page.

You could get the good knockoffs at any corner street vendor in Greenwich Village back in the 80's. I even had the Prince shades from Purple Rain. They cost me $10.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
