The "what did Prince do on Milenia's album" mystery solved.

Hey, as far as i know it hadn't been solved b4: what did Prince do on which tracks on Milenia's 2005 album, and was he involved in the non-album Milenia song released thru NPGMC in 2001. I asked Niyoki about all this thru her Myspace, and she was kind enough to answer:

"Hey there.... Sorry took so long to get back 2 u... haven't been on myspace in a =while! Prince produced "promise" and "no can do" remix....Take Care nad God Bless,N"

Not sure what she meant by "produced" but, knowing Prince, it probably means overdubbing some synth and programming and mixing the tracks. It also means that he wans't involved in that 2001 "dandelion" song.

Sorry if the info was known b4 by some, i just couldn't find a definitive info b4 nowhere online.

Yeah, interesting. Though like you said, "produced" in Prince-world could mean anything from simply allowing them to use Paisley Park studios to a full on Prince composition/performance. Also, the "yeah" sample used in the song "Supercute" was sampled from one of those two tracks (couldn't be arsed digging it out to work out which one, but I remember stumbling across it somewhere).

So this was basically written to sell CDs:

Album Notes

Prince co-wrote and produced several songs on this disc. These ladies served as his back up singers and have toured all over North America and Mexico. They have appeared on Jay Leno and other nationaly televised shows as well as opening for some of the biggest names in the business. Kent Christon, A&R 101 Distribution.

Two songs ain't several.

Thanks for getting to the bottom of it Databank.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

U're much welcome, i've wanted to know that 4 the last 5 years wink

I don't think that Prince co-wrote anything, or if he did there's no record of it at ASCAP. It's quite difficult to identify what he did exactly. The beat on Promise sounds very much like Kirk's programming 1996-1998 but that's pretty much everything that sounds like Prince here eek . The No Can Do remix has a few sound fx (such as the voice soundz, guitar-sounding keyboard and some other discreet stuff like that) that clearly r Prince, even though it's impossible to say if he was responsible 4 the whole remix or not. The funny thing is that the melody of the verses is a lot like Feel Good, Feel Wonderful, Feel Better (presumably composed at a later date).

I tend to agree that the two songs in question have very little in the way of making one think that they're Prince compositions. When you mentioned Feel Better, I can hear that similarity now. The drum programming to me doesn't sound like anything Paisley, but since it's a remix, Prince possibly didn't change that element from the original. Maybe your contact can give you more details, but beyond that, it's hard to tell what P did exactly. ASCAP seems to be short quite a few songs that you would think should be on it's database.

My original email to Niyoki asked for specific credits but that's all i got and i didn't dare to ask more. I don't personnally know her at all, i just asked her as a friend on Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/niyoki) and then sent an email hoping for a response and she was kind enough to give me one.

Prince indeed forgot to copyright a few songs in his career, and he also (as evoked in another thread lately) decided to give his royalties and property to others on a few occasions, so ASCAP might indeed provide inaccurate information. I actually wasn't able to find any info about ANY Milenia song on either ASCAP and BMI but maybe i missed someting (?). Unless someone else writes to Niyoki asking 4 more details, or unless some researcher such as Per Nielsen or Madhouseman interviews her or other bandmembers, i'm afraid that we won't have more insight about it confused

Thevault.com haven't done their page about Milenia's album yet, i'm quite curious to know what additionnal info they have about it, if any. Up until that i guess we have to stick to producer and probably also musician, with possible writing credits as well.

I found this interview with Niyoki in a church-related magazine (scroll to page 5 if you want to avoid the religious stuff):

http://njc-ms.org/njc_ext...tion10.pdf

She also mentions her time with Prince
