You all realize it's against site policy to ask for bootlegs of any kind on the site, right?

Yeah, that is why all the lol. We know we can't have what we want. Unfortunately it is not in bookstores so you can't go in, leaf through it and make that $40 or now $50 choice there and then. You have to buy it on line I guess and pay the extra $10.00 for shipping. What if it is not what you expected AT ALL? It would be nice if people who presently own the book gave reviews without doing alot of quoting which would have to be snipped away at by the mods.

First, her writing style, does it change and become less dramatic as the book goes on. I read the "dog licking up it's own vomit part" but that seems to be about just how low down and out of it she was before she started her righteous path. I am wondering if she uses alot less metaphors, adjatives and adverbs as the book continues so that it is indeed readable. The guy on that Faith show she just appeared on praised her writing style, would you????

Next the pictures, are they from when she was younger or are they more recent? Would you recomend the book?

Thanks for any info.

Yes, she uses a lot less metaphors and adjectives. I just started reading the book and I'm on Chapter 14. She's talking about her childhood and th struggles and fears that she and her sisters had to endure. I'm not going to post pics or parts of the book. However, the book is written in 100% cursive writing. The book is aesthetically beautiful and is filled with beautiful pictures and poetry as well as Denise's story. This book will help people who are going through similar situations in life. I suggest that if people want to read it buy the book like I did. I waited 3 years for it, I pre-ordered it, now here it is. I will say that on the cover of the book is a very beautiful picture, a close up of Denise Matthews. She was very very beautiful.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah....now back to Blame It on Vanity. xoxoxoxoxoox

You state that Vanity uses a lot less metaphors and adjectives in her writing... Does that include less "over-creative" adjectives such as that in the writing sample she posted on her website? Because, I would like to buy her book, but not if I have to wrap my brain around the kind of writing in the sample on the website... Please, let me know if the photos and writing get better further into the book... When she talks about her family, for instance, does she use plain modern-day English instead of biblical influenced Old English references...? lol

Good question. To be very honest, I'm only on Chapter 14 and the writings have not been over the top or overly creative. The reader can understand her, she is expressing herself well. I know that the"on the floor like vomit" turned off a lot of people however this style of writing does not dominate the book. There are nice photos of Denise as a baby, a little girl, a teen etc. There are pictures of her mother, grandmother, sisters and father. When she talks about her family she uses plain modern day English, she does not write in Old English. The average person will be able to understand her writings. The book is artistic in that it is in cursive writing, so you want to read the book in broad daylight or if you read the book in the evenings have good lighting!

Of course she does make reference to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and how even as a child going through trauma, fear, abuse, abandonment etc that He was always there for her. I will say that the book even has historical elements in that it starts out discussing her German lineage on her mother's side and goes into how life was during the war. It was very interesting, so if nothing else, for the historical piece it is worth reading. It is definitely a collectors item, a limited edition and a keepsake. I have the Prince 21 nights glossy book now I have Denises book. lol

Lastly, what I will say in closing is that while I was skimming through the pages the chapter where Prince is discussed is interestingly titled LASSOOED. Like in the word lasso. ha ha.

She says that she was living another man's dream. She says the boss got the last say. Vanity was just at the awards show, Prince saw her and took to her. Vanity at the time was living in Tokyo modeling for a year. She said when she came back she was invited to the awards show, that evening she met Prince. She didn't know anything about Prince. Vanity feels through Osmosis and dreams she talks to Prince then she started laughing.

She said the last time she talked to Prince was 2 years ago. She said she leaves these things up to the Lord. She states Jesus is how we get eternal life, and it is not promised by anyone else unless it is by Jesus. What I'm quoting is from her recent radio interview.

She said she has been a virgin for 13 years and she is celibate. She said if she sleeps with a man he must be her husband. She said if we want to find a husband we should pray to God, make sure we are with somebody who loves Jesus.

2 years ago meaning 2008 or longer cuz I know it took a while to write that book. Nevertheless, did she say anything about how they spoke, what was said? details.......if any.

It was in one of the recent radio interviews that she said the last time she talked to him was 2 years ago, so she must have meant 2008. Yet she never said what they spoke about, who called who, and how long the convo lasted for.

Anyways, I'm glad you are enjoying your book Clevelandgirl. I'm glad you gave us an idea about what it's about. I'm more into "tell all" books, not this sugar-coat stuff and leaving out important events (like her tenure at Motown, the gritty behind the scenes stuff, etc). She could have went into detail about those things without naming names, but it sounds like she just skips those things all together. confused

Yep. She skipped those things. She only talks about her life and her struggles, how she felt like she was in Hell with the drugs when she was horribly addicted, to almost dying and then making an incredible comeback through the poer of Jesus Christ.

I just finished the book, and for me it was a really good read. She is living her life, redeemed and the past is SO behind her.

This is not a tell-all book, at least not in the typical sense, but it's a book that was inspiring, powerful and inspirational.

Exactly! I'm sure she did some naughty things to Berry Gordy to get that exclusice movie & recording contract. I mean Berry gave her top billing in "The Last Dragon" & she wasn't even considered a movie star at that time.

I bet Vanity had some very dirty nasty things she could tell & reveal but decided to keep it to herself....Because she was a seductress & temptress.....

Now that I think about it, you're probably right about Vanity doing some "extra favors" to get that movie and recording contract. When you think about it, all she had done was that straight-to-video movie Tanya's Island and the Vanity 6 album (which was mainly an "underground scene" album at the time and didn't have one song chart on the Billboard Hot 100). Yet Berry Gordy all of the sudden gives her a starring role in a movie and a recording contract? I also remember Motown distributing promotional posters with Vanity on it that said "Miss Audio/Visual 1985," as if was some sort of annual thing that they did, but I don't recall them doing that with anyone else. confused They were really hyping her up and promoting her, and her albums STILL flopped! eek

Well, I remember Vanity once saying that Diana Ross was one of her idols...lol

Vanity met Suzanne De Passe........(forgive the spelling) at a restruant soon after she left Prince. Suzanne( who worked for Motown at the time asked Vanity about being in a movie she was in charge of, that movie was" The Last Dragon" Vanity did the movie and got a recording deal as well.

IF that was really how it happend, then Denise really did fuck everything up when she was in Hollywood. Opportunities just seemed to fall in her lap as Vanity, one after another, and she blew/snorted/smoked it all away on drugs. Pathetic.

She could have been huge. She was breathtakingly gorgeous, sexy and a personality to match. Its sad. I could not keep my eyes off her when I saw her...

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Yes, it's sad the way she wasted her opportunities. I think part of the reason her albums flopped is because she hardly promoted them and when she did do interviews, she rarely talked about the albums and instead was off in outerspace from all the drugs. She should have been touring with her two solo albums, but she didn't.

Considering how worthless the supposedly hot young Hollywood females are today, Vanity should have gotten far more opportunities - better movies, more albums. None are more beautiful than she was. And I think she is more talented than most when you consider that she wa a good actress and sang as well as J Lo and Brittney Spears - who are barely singers.

I don't think her musical career was ever gonna succeed lol 'Wild Animal' is a mess of an album. The follow up 'Skin On Skin' was an improvement, but I don't think people ever took her seriously as an artist. Her real chance at superstardom was movies. She had a dynamic screen presence.'Action Jackson' in 1988 was very successful. It's too bad that her career fizzled out after that.
