Ain't No Place Like U?

I enjoy both versions of this song, Mayte's and Jevetta Steele's (at least I think that's her singing). Does anyone know any info about that unreleased version: when was it recorded? why wasn't it released? did Prince produce it? (It sounds very conventional for him--which works well for the song, I think--and that sure sounds like his guitar playing towards the end.)

Thanks!

Best track on Mayte's album. Always liked it. With a couple of edits and tweaks, I could actually see this getting some airplay back then.

Not keen on Jevetta's version. Was it Jacob Armen on drums on this?

blah blah blah

No. I don't think Jacob ever played on a Prince song. It's credited to "The New Power Generation Drum Corp", meaning it's just Prince (and it's a drum-programming more than an actual drum anyway). You'll notice that the same drum beat was also used on Slave (on Emancipation).

I have just one another version. It's from The Work volume 5, CD 1. It's Mayte, year 1993-1995 . It's more rock style...not much alternative version...just worse quality lol lol

I've got two Mayte versions and I do vaguely recall hearing another -probably on The Work- and not thinking much of it.

I love both Mayte versions, think I hear a trip-hop influence.

Such an overlooked album too.

Yeah I know the unreleased Mayte one was on Work. I recall listening to another, weaker version, on my ipod, could've been from a Parade outtakes boot that I stuck on it once.
