Does Sheila E & Bonnie Boyer have a bit of an argument live in this video at 2:24?

Looks like Bonnie Boyer wants 2 follow Cat and take some of sheila's sticks 2 hit the drums but then Sheila,s not havin it & hits bonnies hand. Bonnie then makes a gesture and walks off pissed:

Watch between 2:19- 2:26

I don't read it that way. Seems playful and fun and they're all having a really good time up there.

The weird thing about that part of the concert (to me) has always been why did he switch to a drum recording? Why wasn't Sheila playing live drums during this song?

I agree that Cat & Sheila look like they find it funny but Bonnie looks PISSED neutral

Never noticed that before. Bonnie does hold out her hand and give a look as though Sheila hit it. She does get a stick a few seconds later to play the cymbals though.

Just curious why you think it's weird about that part and not the other parts of the show?

The drums during Let's Go Crazy sound kick-ass to me. I guess it just bums me out that such a good part of the show was recorded beforehand. As for the other parts of the show where this happens--I have to admit, I haven't watched the entire thing in a long time. I tend to just watch the snippets I really love. So other than Erotic City and Alphabet St., I haven't noticed it in the parts I watch.

So how much of the drumming on the Lovesexy tour was prerecorded? And why? You can barely hear the timbales at all during Let's Go Crazy, so it's not like that was really needed--unless he just wanted to give Sheila a little face time with the crowd.

I'm thinking you hit it right there! The other parts that I can clearly remember at the moment were I Wish U Heaven, and the 2 you mentioned. With SOTT, Forever In My Life/It and U Got The Look from that tour. At least she did get to drum some, Bobby Z just played the symbols on the Purple Rain tour! lol

So I suppose you guys enjoy telling kids there is no Santa Claus too, right? I've never paid enough attention to the technicalities, just had fun watching the performance while thinking that band kicked ass. Now you tell me parts were pre-recorded...THANKS A LOT!! hammer wink

For a long time, I thought the SOTT movie performances were all really live. I'm just one of those who goes along for the ride and enjoys it without thinking about how I'm getting there...which is also why I like pretty much everything Prince and my other favorite artists do.

smile (You are kidding, right?)

I really enjoy the ride too, but when it's really obvious what's going on, it makes me curious.

Also, I'd really love to know if that's Sheila doing the drumming on the recorded part or if Prince did it himself. Just wondering.

No, I'm not kidding. lol Maybe it's because I was more focused on watching Prince and the girls dance and such, I actually never thought about it. But, until I got into the online Prince world, I never even knew anything about 'triggers' and all that crap. Like I said, it's about the ride and I don't want to look behind the curtain, it's my escape!

As for liking most everything that the artists I like put out, a good example is Bonnie Raitt. I've loved her since she came out in '73 and have bought every album of hers. Even though every song wasn't the best thing ever, I enjoyed the records...even the ones that were panned when she was drinking/drugging so much. (heh...now that I think about it, maybe that's because I was in the same state sometimes!) lol

But now I want to know the answer to your question about the drumming too. wink

It didn't really ruin anything for me knowing that some of the drumming was preprogramed. I wanted to see Sheila out front for a bit. I mean, if it wasn't for that we wouldn't have gotten to see her strutting her stuff in the one legged outfits on the SOTT and Lovesexy tours. He also used at least some recorded drumming on the Nude tour as well, since on one of the rehearsals Prince asks Michael what he is going to do if the machines goes whack in the middle of a show. I also think it's pretty common knowledge that the Purple Rain tour was pretty much all a drumming machine. At the time there was a write up in Rolling Stone about it.
