You live in Morgan Hill? That's part of my old bosses congressional district. I spent a lot of time over years out there. Made many friends.

Thanks SOSGEmini. Yeah I didn't know you lived here. I was living in the Mission but just moved to Santa Clara, which brings me to the show at Avalon.

I got there around 9:45 cuz I knew there was an opening act, but turns out there were two! I went by myself since I barely know anyone around here except for co-workers. . anyway the 2nd opening act was good, KoolKats. THe did Fun Fun Fun by Con Funk Shun which made me think of Sheila smile

The Escovedo's came on around 11:30 and played for like 90 minutes. It was pretty much what you'd expect: amazing Latin jazz, with lots of percussion solos by Pete, Peter Michael, Juan and of course Sheila. I'd seen them about 2 years ago at Yoshi's SF and this was pretty similar.

The most interesting thing was they did a tribute to Azteca (the band Pete and his brother founded) and Zina--who had come to the stage to say they were selling documentary DVDs about Azteca--came back on and sang background vocals on the song!!! I never saw here onstage before, let alone singing. I had talked to her a bit at Yoshi's that time and she seemed like she was definitely NOT interested in performing, but I guess this song must be special to her. She was good!

Sheila was behind the drums most of the time but played some of the other percussion too like timbales and bongos.

Peter Michael was there -- and looking gorgeous as ever!!! He --like Sheila-- doesn't age!!!

I guess he has become more religious or at least is more vocal about it because he started the show with some (very positive) words about God etc. and apparently has a CD that looks like it is has a spiritual bent. He is really fun to watch onstage; he is like the male version of Sheila! smile

I was hoping they'd break out a little of Sheila's stuff.... but at the end she basically got on the drums, did some solos and started Kiss for a second and even threw in a second of Housequake but immediately was like "Psych!" She explained that she knew everyone would just put it on YouTube and it would get taken down (we all know by whom! smile )

Which made sense, but it sucks becasue all these people were recording videos (i took a fwe pics obviously) but they were like holding their phones up the whole time which was dumb, but moreover that because of that, and you know who's attitude about Youtube, she couldn't play here own stuff sad

Anyway, it was fun. And only 10 miles from my apt.

I wish she will do a Sheila E. show sometime soon. Last time I saw that was in 2004 I think and she really rocked the house!

Oh wow, I'm living in Stockton right now. Sutter Creek is a new one for me althought I've heard of Jackson. Casino time! Never been though.
