Brenda and Susan roles don't have to be cast with singers. Although, Pink would be a good choice for Brenda (appearance and flava factor). The girls probably shouldn't be required to do any actual singing (not that Vanity 6 did). I think one of the ATL twins could play Susan or possibly another video girl who has acting ability. Also, remember, who ever play these roles (Brenda, Susan, Prince ) don't have to be dead-ringers for who they're playing. Angela Bassett and Lawrence Fishburne didn't look exactly like Tina and Ike Turner and did an EXCELLENT jobs as Tina and Ike.

I still don't understand how they can do this. Surely, Vanity wouldn't give her permission. And I can't imagine Prince okaying the use of his music. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I hope this movie happens. I can't wait. And I hope the editing in the movie is done EXACTLY like in this video interview--cutting away from people right in mid-sentence and shit. Just give it a whole WTF vibe all the way through.

Well let's examine the logic in that. 1) You can just about make a movie about anyone or anything. How many unauthorized bio's are there out in the media, either made for TV, or released in theaters? Everything from Rock Star to Almost Famous to Hysteria is written about someone, whether they're involved or not. A lot of times filmmakers will call the subject and say, "Look, we're making this movie about you....with or without you. Would you like to be part of it?" The implication is "If you're not part of it, we'll fill in gaps how we feel is necessary." That's not to say Vanity has been strong armed into something, but ultimately anyone can make a movie about her if they wanted to. Not sure how big of a draw that will be at theaters, but we'll see. 2) What if Vanity IS on board? She is releasing her autobiography, and maybe someone optioned it for a movie. Do we know for sure if she is, or isn't, involved? 3) Who said Prince music would be in it? Remember when they did a movie about Madonna (made for TV), the only songs used were ones she had no rights to as a songwriter. That's why "Like A Virgin" was featured, because she didn't write it, nor does she own it. It was written by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg. So having said that, it's likely that no Prince music will be used in the movie anyway, unless Warner Bros has a final say on using tunes, rather than Prince. All of that remains to be seen, and it's probably lodged firmly in his separation contract w/ them. There can be "sound alike" songs (which are often created and used in a biography to side step paying royalties for the original) used in the film. Remember how "Slave 4 U" sounded like "Nasty Girl" and no one got sued? On a more generic level, they can do that for a movie. 4) They can also use post-Prince Vanity music. She had a couple of solo albums that, if she's involved, she might lend permission to use, if she has the rights to lend permission.

Nope, I see new ones for anywhere from $4-10 around town. They're cut outs, or just extras it seems. Oddly, the ones in the used bins or used stores are more than the new ones marked down. Go figure.

New Girl on the Rise Stars as Famous 'Nasty Girl'; Krystal Rivera: The Vanity of "V6" Motion Picture
Los Angeles (PRWEB) January 20, 2010 -- Today, you can still hear their hit song on Top 40 radio and in nightclubs throughout the world. In 1982, the explicitness of Vanity 6 caused many a mother to cringe as their young daughters emulated Vanity, Brenda, or Susan in their bedroom mirrors; however, Vanity 6 lives on in the hearts and memories of steadfast fans and is the genesis of many of the girl groups that captivate the youth of today. "V6" is a made-for-television motion picture in the making that is based on the lives and times of the famed trio. The film is now being produced for a cable television network and is in its development stage. "V6" promises to produce a genuine look behind the purple curtain at the bold women who emanated confident sensuality and rocked the stage in revealing lingerie before any other act dared. These women breathed life into the fantastical imagery lurking in the minds of men and their collective chronicle is filled with the brand of drama you would anticipate from a pop iconic group with the musician Prince as their headmaster. Krystal Rivera will star in the docudrama/musical. The twenty-year-old Atlanta-based model/actress has been selected to portray the seductive songstress Denise Matthews, better known as Vanity. Born Krystal Lucricia Rivera to a Puerto Rican and Black father and a Puerto Rican and St. Thomian mother, the exotic young siren embodies the sultry spirit that once defined Vanity. The filming of the "V6" movie is expected to begin in New York City in late 2010. Note to editors: Please, let us know if you have any questions or would like any additional information on Krystal Rivera. Is it gonna be like with Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America ending-up with an Avengers movie?
I mean we could have the V6 movie, the Time movie, the Apollonia 6 movie, the Sheila E movie, the Revolution movie and everything would end-up with a BIG cross-over in the Purple Rain Tour movie and Prince would play the big bad villain in the last movie who had manipulated all the villains in the other films. you guys. First, this is a made-for-tv movie
Secondly, I don't think Denise Matthews is involved in this. There was another thread a month or so ago linking the main website and it's Brenda Bennett who is involved. Denise has said before she doesn't want to make a movie about herself, as she is far removed from the hollywood scene now. When or if she catches wind of this project, I think she's going to be very unhappy about it. The movie is going to highlight how the Vanity 6 group shocked audiences with their lingerie style and dirty lyrics, thus opening the door for female acts to be more openly sexual. Denise wouldn't want this message to be sent out to the world. So anyway, I forgot to ask this in the first post, do you guys think this Krystal Rivera person can pull off a convincing Vanity, or not? I hope her acting is better than her interview skills I wasn't impressed with her answers. [Edited 3/9/10 14:54pm]

But no one knows for sure except her. There was another thread a month or so ago linking the main website and it's Brenda Bennett who is involved. When or if she catches wind of this project, I think she's going to be very unhappy about it. There's always going to be someone unhappy about something. Big deal if Denise is upset. It's like Wendy & Lisa said about talking about Prince, "Hey, this is MY experience too, and I have a right to talk about MY life." That goes for Brenda's experience while in V6 and A6. The movie is going to highlight how the Vanity 6 group shocked audiences with their lingerie style and dirty lyrics, thus opening the door for female acts to be more openly sexual. Denise wouldn't want this message to be sent out to the world.
Far be it from you to speak for her, of course. In case you haven't noticed, female acts have been flashing vag and titty for quite a while now. And if the movie was going to "highlight" their style, then it'd be a 5 minute biography on A&E. Dirty lyrics have been around way before V6 talked about wanting 7 inches or more. "Opening doors". haha Okay. V6 didn't "shock", they titillated and fans loved it. No one was running out of the Triple Threat Tour when they came on stage.

I can't imagine there is a large enough audience for this to be a TV movie. Maybe if this aired on BET or whatever they call themsevels now. Actually a documentary type flick on TV One would suffice.
TV or no, this shit gonna end up in the discount DVD pile at Walmart.

I had the biggest crush on Vanity she remains the most beautiful woman I ever seen. So I'm going to be very critical of this movie. But some attention does need to be made of that group and Vanity. They were pioneers and no female group was doing that back then what they were doing.
Krystal is beautiful. But doesn't look as exotic as Vanity did... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

let's be frank, the mary jane girls were more well-known than vanity 6...if vanity never left the group, maybe vanity 6 would of been more recognized
besides from that, if the tv movie those come through (which i doubt) it would be kind of interesting to see how they portray prince as and what went on behind the scenes of vanity 6 (it has been mentioned that there was a love triangle, vanity not getting along with brenda, vanity becoming an addict and who knows what else when on)...for prince and vanity 6 fans, this movie is predictable because we know the basics of how vanity 6 was formed, the music, drama and how it ended... i think it would of been a good idea if they did a movie based on vanity's life since she was the star of this girl group and had a lot going on in her life

No one was running out of the Triple Threat Tour when they came on stage. geez what is it with posters like you and brofie who think you know everything and have to be so rude when replying to people? Before I reply to you, let me say-no obviously I'm not speaking for her, but anyone who has read her interviews in recent years could figure out what I said. No way is Denise Matthews involved in this project. If she, or Prince, or anyone else was involved, they would have been listed/pictured on the web site. Now, the project is in its early stages, but so far only Brenda has been mentioned as involved. As I said before but obviously you ignored it, the movie is glorifying the outrageous style and appearance of Vanity 6. That goes totally against what Denise Matthews stands for today. If you think she's going to be involved with making this movie, then you're totally wrong Her whole book is about condemning who and what Vanity represented. You also misunderstood most of what I wrote. First you say "only Denise knows if she's involved or not" before saying "so what if she's upset"-so you kind of ramble in your answer When I said "shock" audiences, I obviously meant it in a positive way. People couldn't believe these 3 women could get up on and go stage dressed the way they were, singing the kinds of songs they did. That was not a common thing back then. You know it wasn't so stop trying to argue for the sake of arguing with me. Now obviously the movie will talk about the story of Vanity 6 and what happened behind the scenes, but it's being made because of who they were and what they represented. Now please don't argue with me when you're obviously talking out your ass.

I hope this is for real but judging by that amateur looking video, I have my doubts. I mean, she wasn't even talking directly into a either a microphone or even a hidden microphone. Her voice was just totally in the background as if an amateur made it and it just seems to me that a legitimate film project would at invest in at least a halfway professional looking video at least with good sound anyway.

When VH1 made the Michael Jackson movie "Man In The Mirror", they didn't play any Michael Jackson songs. The movie was mainly about his life after the "Victory" tour ended and the few times they showed concert performances, they used generic music for only a few seconds with him dancing. The performance shots almost looked like dream scenes. Andy is a four letter word.
