in Purple Music, when Prince said
Don't need no cymbals, no saxophone
I just need 2 find me a style of my own
And I'm high, oh

enter the Vanity 6 group and the Times 2nd album "What Time Is It" we start to see a burst of creative energy out of Uptown as well as an explosion of unreleased music
The protege periods of 1981-1987 were very colorful and intruiging

Great curveball of a record at the time. It further blurred the gender lines with Prince as a writer. Nasty Girl's beat is an undeniable masterpiece.

When this record first came out, I was like... "Vanity 6? But, there's only three of them." I didn't realize that Prince was throwing some math our way.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Vanity 6 - Drive Me Wild

[this 1st part reminds me of Little Red Corvettes comparison of Woman with a hot car]

Ooh, look at me, I'm a Cadillac
I'm a brand new convertible child
I've never been driven baby, U're the first
Come on baby, drive me wild ... ooh

Ooh, look at me, I'm a telephone
Whatever U want, just dial
Come on honey, please, it's so easy
Do it baby, drive me wild

CHORUS:
Come on baby, do it, drive me wild
Do it baby, drive me wild
Come on baby, do it, drive me wild
Do it baby, drive me wild

Ooh, look at me, I'm a radio
Call me up, make a request
I'll do anything, just name it
When I'm bad, baby, I'm the best

CHORUS

Ooh

Ooh, look at me, I'm a baby doll
Just pick me up and I'll smile
I may be young but I'm a whole lotta fun
Come on, baby, drive me wild

CHORUS

Ooh, do it, drive me wild
Come on baby, drive me wild
Ooh, do it, drive me wild
Come on baby, drive me wild
Drive me wild, drive me wild

Vanity handled this song just right, I love this song this is Uptown
give me something I can croon 2...

Nasty Girl

That's right, pleased 2 meet U
I still won't tell U my name
Don't U believe in mystery?
Don't U wanna play my game?
I'm lookin' 4 a man 2 love me
Like I never been loved before
I'm lookin' 4 a man that'll do it anywhere
Even on a limousine floor cuz..
CHORUS:
2 night I'm livin' in a fantasy
My own little nasty world
2 night, don't U wanna come with me?
Do U think I'm a nasty girl?
2 night I'm livin' in a fantasy
My own little nasty world
2 night, don't U wanna come with me?
Do U think I'm a nasty girl?

I guess I'm just use 2 sailors
I think they got water on the brain
I think they got more water upstairs
Than they got sugar on a candy cane
That's right, it's been a long time
Since I had a man that did it real good
If U ain't scared, take it out
I'll do it like a real live nasty girl should

CHORUS {x2}

Please, please {x2}
Nasty girl (Nasty girl)
Do U think I'm a nasty girl? {repeat 2 lines x4}
Oh (Do U think I'm a nasty girl?)
Oh (Nasty girl)
Nasty girl (Nasty girl)
Do U think I'm a nasty girl?
Oh

I don't like this groove
Try and give me something I can croon 2
Catch my drift?
That'll work

That's right, I can't control it
I need 7 inches or more
2 night, I can no longer hold it
Get it up, get it up, I can't wait anymore

Uh, it's time 2 jam
Dance nasty girls, dance
Everybody, uh, it's time 2 jam
Nasty girls, dance dance dance

Everybody, uh, it's time 2 jam
Nasty girls, dance dance dance
Uh, it's time 2 jam
Nasty girls, dance dance dance
(Are U gonna come?)
Uh

Is that it?
Mm, wake me when U're done
I guess U'll be the only one having fun

There's a nod to Nasty Girl in the lyrics of this jam at about 4:05 in. I love this old-school cut by Mz Kilo.

NSFW lyrics.

I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.

"When I met Vanity, I was at [night-club] First Avenue,
in the mezzanine area.
Before anyone even said a word, I felt a quickening in the air.
Within seconds, people started buzzing, "Vanity's here, Vanity's here."
I saw her coming through,
one of the most beautiful women you could ever lay eyes on,
packed into latex or whatever second skin,
looking exquisit."

This picture represents what I've always liked about earlier Prince & the Proteges
They were integrated, the Vanity 6 girls were heard on the Times albums
the bands were connected

And I love that 'Trying to make it' drive
