I dig W&L and their music, and I found the "fancy lesbian" comment pretty funny. I interact with them regularly online and find them to be funny, insightful and very good to their fans. I'm also a very dedicated fan of Prince.

So for me this isn't about being on Prince's side, or on Wendy & Lisa's side, unlike the majority of the people debating this who are quite clearly on one side of the other.

Here's where I have a problem:

IF Prince was indeed upset about that comment, and W&L would certainly know whether he would be or not, it's a little unfair for them to continue it and make it into this big thing by putting it on shirts etc.

Yes, most people walking down the street wouldn't know what the hell it meant. But what if Prince was genuinely hurt by it and HE saw someone wearing one? Yes, he's a grown man but that doesn't mean he doesn't have feelings. You know, even if he was able to laugh off the comment in the context of an interview, putting it on a T-Shirt is a different matter entirely.

Yes, people can argue that Prince has treated W&L badly and unfairly, and he may have hurt their feelings in the past before. But two wrongs don't make a right. Yes people can say they're claiming the phrase in association with their own identities - both W&L as artists and their fanbase. But that doesn't change the fact that it was originally a remark made about Prince and potentially, at his expense, if he was indeed offended by it.

You know, maybe it's all a big fuss over nothing and he finds it funny. Maybe W&L know that and maybe it was in that knowledge that they decided to go ahead and get those shirts made. But it's not really safe for us to assume that.

I ordered my shirt on Friday. Hopefully, I'll have it by this weekend so I can wear it to Prince Night.
