They had the moves down, but they weren't supposed to be a dance troup Vanity ie Denise Matthews was Prince's current girlfriend Susan Moonsie his post high school girlfriend and friend Brenda Bennett wife of his stage/lighting director and friend I saw that makes a good combination I don't think she looked old She was the tough chick If U listen 2 17 Days, that song was intended 4 her on the Apollonia 6 album reference to the cigarettes (she smoked Prince didn't) and her backup vocals remain on the song. Bria needs a touch of what's below just a bit from each

Brenda Bennett
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Brenda Bennett is an American singer from Boston, Massachusetts who married the musician Prince's set-designer Roy Bennett, and then became Prince's "wardrobe mistress." Prince gave her a "tough-girl, cigarette-smoking" persona and enlisted her in a girlgroup that he was attempting to create, Vanity 6, in 1982. That group broke up a year later due to the departure of its lead singer Vanity, after only minor success. But Bennett stuck around for its reincarnation, with a new lead singer, as Apollonia 6 in 1984. Bennett's image in both of the groups was that of the bad girl: she smoked and had the most attitude. Bennett also had a part in the film Purple Rain alongside Apollonia 6 members Susan Moonsie and the group's lead singer Apollonia. Brenda Bennett can be heard on lead vocals on "Some Kind Of Lover," "A Million Miles (I Love You)," and "Blue Limousine" on the album Apollonia 6. She can also be heard on background vocals of the song "17 Days" that Prince withdrew from their album. The song became a B-Side of his single "When Doves Cry" as well as several other Prince tracks recorded while he was on under the Warner Bros. label. In April 2007 Youtube displayed the Apollonia Film "Happy B.Day Mr. Christan". In this film Brenda features her solo song "Blue Limousine" from the Apolloinia 6 Lp. She runs through cars and sings about her missed lover who treates her unkindly outside a gas station and features Susan and 'Apples' in black leather working on cars.

Thanks, OldFriends4Sale, for posting those pictures! I hadn't seen some of them in years, and others I'd never seen before. Thanks again
And Brenda was cool. Neither of the 6's would've been what they were without her.

she also seemed to be the one who could sing with any depth. Maybe just because she had a lower register.

I totally agree with you. She did look a lot older than the other girls and was not sexy at all.

Brenda is cool! I like what she brought to the group....a strong, intimidating lady who would kick your ass if you looked at her the wrong way
I can't stop him, wherever he parks his car is alright But he'll be parking with a dent in the side if he stands me up tonight Her vocals on "Blue Limousine" are the best vocals on both the Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 albums.I was surprised when I first heard it.

All anyone else could do was coo and ahh..... And it's a damn shame she never got a solo LP!!!!! I disagree. Vanity had the chops too. But let's face it, none of them were really good singers at all. I thought the 3 of them made a good team. You had super sexy Vanity, Cute as a teddy bear Susan, and I'll kick your ass twice Brenda. They all took turns singing, which I liked as well. You can find the 12" pretty easily. I was shocked when I heard this version as it didn't sound like the original at all. It a FUNK JAM! Christian Zombie Vampires

I agree, Vanity had a confidence that came across as cocky, and it played well Susan had the looks the moves the come hither looks Brenda was just tough and straight forward I love Susans clothing, these videos are just fun the music was really good and I love the way Vanity 6 fit into Uptown, the same way the Time had their own corner

I was young when I say Purple Rain and I will tell you that where Morris Said "I want some @$$3$ wiggling. I want some perfection!" Til this day makes me .....pause! Carry on with the thread as I go to cool off

I also like that they took turns in singing lead vocals, unlike Bananarama who never sang individually. With her kick ass attitude and strong voice I think Pink is the modern day Brenda.
