I Am Seamore Funk

My daughter texted me the other day and said, "Google Seamore Funk, daddy, cause people are still talking about your music."

My music has often been shared, mistaken, and mislabeled as Prince's since 1999.

Thanx for the kind words on this site about my music. And for the haters..... well, even haters can make u famous.

misthought of as Prince? Wow people don't really listen do they.
I might mistake you for someone from the Ohio Players or the Barkays (not a bad comparison btw) but not Prince.
And you should be in other artists as it is true you are not associated. But good job on your PR thinking..lol

The song Big Tall Wall is Prince. The bootleg CD of the same name contained a song by Seamore Funk incorrectly credited to Prince. There are other Prince boots with Seamore Funk songs on them, check out the org FAQs.

I'm associated by mistake !

In 2000, I received an e-mail from Rosie Gaines; his former keyboardist and backing vocalist (sometimes co-lead). It contained her phone number. She asked me to give her a call. When I did, she got really quiet. I laughed and said, "Did u think I was someone else?" She said, " brother, I really did; cause there's no way I would give my digits out to a total stranger over the internet." We talked for about 30 minutes. I was tripping cause I couldn't believe that this woman had heard some of my songs on MP3.Com and thought they were Prince's. She said she thought he was using another one of his names. I said, "Why wouldn't u just call him ? U were in his band ? She said they had lost touch because he was spending time in Spain. She said they had each others e-mail address, but people kept intercepting them, so they would keep changing.

After talking a while, she said she would call me back in about 20 minutes. I figured she was blowing me off, but did as she said and called back 20 minutes later. We talked for about another 30 minutes. A part of me really thinks she was calling for Prince to find out who I was, because at least 10 to 15 of my songs were in the top 40 of MP3's R&B,Funk,or Soul charts consistently for 18 months. My song "SexyAsUwannaBe" stayed at number 1 or number 2 on the r&b chart for one year straight. People were downloading my songs and buying my cds on mp3.com, and then mislabeling them on Napster, Morpheus, Kazaa, and Limewire. So I think Rosie was doing some investigating. If not for Prince (or the unpronouncable symbol as he was then), then maybe for herself.

I never called her again after that. I didn't want her to think I was some crazed fan. She probably changed her number anyway (lol).

So I guess I was associated by mistake !

Interesting story. Thanks for sharing. Kind of sad that Prince would loose touch with her and be so hard for her to reach.

Nah... It is just my opinion (and not fact), but Rosie probably knew how to contact Prince..lololol.

It's too much to say that she was checking-up on you.. I just don't know.
