Listen in as the "Upper Room with Joe Kelley and Gi Dussault" and WVOF welcome songwriter/musician/singer MARVA KING for a live interview. Marva King has just released a standout CD, "Grown and Sexy" and it is available at www.marvaking.com and www.myspace.com/marvaking . Marva is currently promoting the new CD and has a concert with her band Soulfully Rock Out at the Whiskey A Go-Go in Los Angeles on Feb. 6th. She is also a member of Prince's band.

Marva King grew up in Flint, MI. Singer, songwriter, musician, actress, dancer, and producer Marva King has been performing with major artists since the age of 13. Marva was nurtured by a family of entertainers with gospel, classical, and secular music. Her mother, who is a vocal and piano teacher, between touring, nourished and influenced Marva's skills. No doubt her mother and father's training was extremely instrumental in the development of Marva's innumerable talents. Some of those who have acknowledged Marva's God given talents, and have worked with her include the likes of Micheal Jackson, Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder, Seal, Lenny Kravitz, Jimmie Cliff, Qunicy Jones, Whitney Houston, D'Angelo, Eric Benet, Jimmie Jam and Terry Lewis, Teddy Riley, Johnny Gill, Lionel Richie, Pattie LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Julio Inglesias, Anita Baker, Babyface, Andre Couch, Shaggy, and many more.

Marva's musical creativityand interests ranges from gospel ,to jazz, to r&b,to funk & rock, to hip-hop. She gained numerous fans by co-writing a #1 single for the Whispers titled "Innocent", as well as songs for various other artists.

Marva created a buzz for herself when she began to sing, dance, and play percussions for N.P.G.(New Power Generation), the back-up band for "Prince". To most, her energy and excitement as a live performing artist was validated when she dove into the audience while performing at the famed "Hippodrome" in London, England. Her reviews from the time she spent with Prince and N.P.G. proved that the critics were seeing what the insiders knew all along. Larry Flick of Billboard magazine said "Marva King is a supreme Diva, and her name will go down in history as one of the best." Her sensual dance movements left the audiences spellbound and her dynamic vocal talents left them speechless.

Marva has taken audiences by storm in her stunning role as "Helen", the lead in the hit musical play "Diary Of A Mad Black Woman", which has been in theatres across the country since January, 2001.

Marva was nominated and won Best Neo-soul Live Performer and Best Neo-soul Artist at the R&B Soul Music Awards 2003 in Los Angeles.

It is time for this mystic beauty to share her gifts with the world . Marva King's energy is contagious and she is a great entertainment experience!

cool. tell marva i said hi (check my profile pic btw)

she's really talented in all ways, she knows a lot about the music business as well as working with so many great acts, plus her acting, and even her line of swimwear

and thanks to marva, she got me onstage to dance with prince for the very first time at brixton academy in london 1998, and threw the symbol tamborine from stage at the hippodrome aftershow a few days before, which i caught and still have to this day

her new cd is really great too

I really dig Marva. She is so unique, interesting, talented and beautiful. Her spirit is magnetic and I enjoy seeing her onstage with Prince.

I am listening to her song "Share" from the Web site. It's tight. I truly wish her well.
