Rihanna to Star in “The Last Dragon”?!?!

If RZA had his way, he’d have Rihanna — for his new film. The Wu-Tang Clan kingpin is co-producing a remake of the 1980s fan favorite “The Last Dragon” with Samuel L. Jackson and told MTV News yesterday he’d like the sexy Barbadian songstress to take on the role of video show host/singer Laura Charles. Popular back-in-the-day vamp Vanity originated the role in the 1985 flick, while Taimak tackled the lead character and her romantic interest, Bruce Leroy (a.k.a. Leroy Green).

“That’s the one I’m rooting for,” RZA said of Rihanna. “We’re keeping that same concept of the girl being in the music business.”

RZA explained that several female artists were being looked at for the part, but he thought Rih would be the best choice. He also noted that he and the filmmakers were in the process of finding a new-millennium Bruce Leroy but wouldn’t disclose the identities any of the candidates.

no worries, no one is going to see that garbage remake no matter who stars in it, it will bomb at the box office and we'll wonder why the heck they decided to do a remake in the first place, there will NEVER be anything like the original

I was so surprised when I heard that there was going to be a remake of this movie. I mean was it ever a big hit when it was released back in 1985? I don't think the film was ever shown in the UK at the cinema or on video. Was the movie released in any other countries besides the USA? As for Rihanna playing Vanity's role, don't we already see too much of her as it is. It seems everytime you switch on the TV she's there! Do u know what I mean? I hope the producers choose someone else.

actually it was a hit considering. Grossed over 25 mill and that's pretty damn good for low budget mostly black casted film made by Motown back in 1985. It had a bigger opening than Agnes of God and Weird Science, both films with notable stars. I even remember roger and ebert movie critics saying how surprised they were that the film was good and was doing well in box office receipts...which is why my family went to go see it. biggrin

Rihanna?
Instant and definite FAIL.
I suppose RZA will be casting Busta Rhymes as Sho Nuff. It'd actually be a better casting choice than Rihanna as anything.

supposedly Samuel L. Jackson is playing Sho nuff, I was sitting in back of him at a recent award show, he looks way too old to be playing Sho Nuff, Last Dragon is a young film, this will be a disaster, I agree busta rhymes would be a better choice
