One of the best side projects P has ever released. This was simply a MONSTER during 84. A huge album. And the title single was fantastic. One of the best things for radio P has ever written. I'm soooo glad he didn't waste it on Apple6. He was wise in yanking that and Manic Monday from them. Anyway, the whole album is good, really. P was in such a zone then. He knew he was going to be big as a muthafucker with the film and all. It was just pouring out of him and he was dedicated to getting it down on tape. Funny,.. man, memories of this year was really magical for me. As a kid, in high school and getting my props as a Hendrix/Prince type guitarist was knew to me. This and being in Drama class, I was being chased down by the girls in my school! The more popular Prince became, it kinda mirrored onto what I was doing. Very weird and cosmic like. But anyway, I remember some girl asled me about this song The Glam Life. That's what I always called it. Anyway, I said I wasn't hip to it. Which is strange as hell, being that I was always the first to know about what P was doing. For some freak reason, the initial buzz of this cut slipped past me. So one day, in early June, this was before I went to the premire of PR, I saw the video of the Glam Life. It was already playing when I turned over there. And I saw Sheila and her band, who DEEPLY echoed P's new lineup in his own band. Even down to Sheila's lil' cousin on guitar. She was the Wendy of the group. Anyway, I had never seen anyone capture what P himself was doing, like Sheila. Even Vanity. Sheila was truly the girl version of Prince. It was spooky, really. I was like, "Damn! That short muthafucker really puts a spell on his women!...And their all fine as hell too!"

It was Sheila and The Glamorous Life album that turned me onto Prince and his then back catalog... Its crazy how well the title track stands up over time... I always wondered if the lyrics were a jab at Vanity -- anyone know the back story of the song?

Fuckinh YEAH! In '88, I went to the Lovesexy concert at MSG and the Nassau Coliseum. Sheila brought down the house. Prince's music goes to another level when she's on the drums.

Apollonia said that Prince wrote TGL about her as a joke.

Does anyone know if Apollonia 6 actually recorded a version of this song since it was originally written for them?

I watched the show and it was great. Sheila E's website has a link to MSN which shows the video in case anyone watched it. I'm not sure if this has already been posted (if so - sorry) if not you can watch the video here it says you can even copy the clip so hope I haven't broken any rules

Agreed, and hopefully not just in the LA area. I want to see them hit the East Coast.
