How did Brown Mark become part of the Revolution

After all these years of being a Prince fan, I had never noticed him for some reason. What is his story, what's he doing now?

Actually Sonny Thompson, Prince´s childhood idol, was supposed to replace Andre Cymone and was asked to lose some weight, so he went on a diet and started exercizing. But then, out of the blue, Prince changed his mind and chose Brownmark over Sonny.
I like both of them.

Thats right, Sonny was interviewed for a book on Prince called "A Pop Life" and told the author of this.

Prince can be such a bitch. What the hell does weight have to do with bass playing?

Anyway, as far as Prince worrying about something as silly as a band member's looks.....a guy could lose all the weight in the world, put on the best clothes, get the right hair style, and still not look as fine as Andre Cymone.

How in the HELL did u not notice Mark? That sounds crazy as hell. U couldn't miss him. Besides P, he was the only other brother up there during Purple Haze. ooops, I mean Rain. He was the best bassist P has ever had. He was even a better bassist than P was/is.

I know that's right! Especially in some of the old P. videos like "Mountains" when he wore that Captain Marvel cape, or in the "When Doves Cry" video when he had on the dark brown jumpsuit. A lot of times he would be shirtless on stage, And if that didn't get him noticed. His stage presence should've. He could play and dance at the same time very well, Which is very difficult to do, And he seemed to have fun doing it.

Well MarkBrown has also said that he is easy going and that Sonny was not an easy going guy and that he probaly would have knocked P out at some point and time. Mark felt that was the real reason P changed his mind.

I think this is in one of the P books or maybe it was in Uptown. Anyway P hired Sonny later so maybe he got over his fear of being beaten or of having a fat guy on stage. (LOL)

Well story goes yes BMark did beat out Sonny Thompson and Terry Lewis for that matter. Prince was quoted several times praising BMark's bass skills. Once in "Rolling Stone" and another time in "Bass Player" magazine.

BMark is by far in my top 4 fav Prince bass players. "Head" and "Let's Work" haven't been played as funky since he left. Those are just 2 examples there are more. Dude was fierce!!!! Point blank. He was the only reason I watched that family jamm show.

First of all, everybody is a "somebody". Regardless of what industry u are in. Nobody is a "nobody". That said, Mark WROTE the bassline to the live version of When Doves. Which was banging. He wrote the songs for Mazarati except for 100MPH and Strawberry Lover. So he wrote the basslines to the songs he wrote, obviously. Which all of the bass lines are very cool like Players Ball and I Guess It's All Over, which is very Bootsy like. P wrote the bassline to P's America and I suspect he wrote the bass line to Mountains. It sounds more like Mark's line than P's. Same as on the extended version of Kiss. I believe Mark wrote that. Granted, Mark had been playing with P since 81 so he has P's style down. Same as P could write a bassline that he knows would fit Mark's style and he could elevate it. The first time I had ever seen P in concert, which was on the Controversy tour, Mark had just joined. He always had a real thick full tone to his bass. A lot of bottom, which always cut through the music. Which was very cool. Same as on the 1999, PR and the Hit and Run shows which I've also attended.

O.k. Maybe it'e the poor mixes on Prince's album that stops me hearing much bass(during mark's time)
