So I watched PR for the first time in YEARS, and was wondering... Why didnt Appolonia just pay for her cab fare? She had a huge wad of cash. It was only like $37 and some change. What do you think was the reason the script was written to have her skip out on paying? Its not consistant to her part through the rest of the movie.

She could not afford the fare. She only had enough for the hotel.

It was a cinematic tool to establish her desperation - she was desperate to get the First Avenue from New Orlenas because she saw it as a way to make it big in show business. The audience knows before anything is said that she is a desperate stranger on a mission.
