Levi vs. Sonny T.

Which one was the funkiest on the bass, who contributed more to Prince's music and his sound and just fit in with image?

Levi was guitar; Sonny T. was bass.
They both were extremely funky and fit perfectly, IMO. nod

That not entirely true ,Levi played bass guitar with Prince from the Sign"o the Time era until 1991's Diamonds and Pearls LP when Sonny T. took over on bass
and Levi started playing the Blue Angel Guitar, if you don't belive me watch the Sign O the Times movie and LoveSexy Live in concert and Graffiti Bridge movie and you'll see Levi on bass.

confused
(I didn't realize.) It's not that serious... I don't generally analyze the videos that closely.
But I do think they're both extremely talented musicians and fit into the band very well. I was sad to see them leave. sad

THEY'RE BOTH "NASTY" ON BASS AND GUITAR!!!! BUT I BELIEVE EARLIER IN P'S CAREER THAT SONNY HAD A HUGE INFLUENCE ON HIM...AND I HEARD THAT AFTER ANDRE LEFT, IT WAS A TOSS-UP BETWEEN SONNY T. & BROWNMARK.....P CHOSE BROWNMARK!!!!!

Sonny T. by far is the better musician. Levi is certainly versatile, and my vote for Sonny isn't to take away from Levi's talent. But he was better on guitar. Yeah, he did a funky solo in the SOTT movie, but Sonny could do that w/ his eyes closed. Both are talented, but Sonny edges Levi out, and definitely contributed to Prince's sound and the band overall more than Levi ever did. I don't remember Levi singing lead on songs....but alas, Sonny did (among other talents).

My vote goes to Sonny b/c Sonny was a huge influence on Prince's sound, guitar, and bass playing.

Also, Levi primarily played bass with a pick rather than using his fingers.

Most likely, Levi is a better natural guitarist and Sonny is the better natural bassist.

Sonny is my favorite bass player, and Prince once said in Guitar Player magazine that Sonny was one of his guitar heroes, because he taught Prince a lot during their teenage years. After Andre left, Prince almost decided to use Sonny in his band....then he made Sonny lose weight cause he thought he was too fat...and then chose Brownmark instead.
