That sign actually is supposed to warn off evil; it wasn't anything to do with the 'devil' or any of that bullshit.

Christian groups made up the lie it was a sign of the devil because they saw rock stars doing it; so after that rockers ran with it.

I wish Prince was a devil worshipper, anti-christ superstar!

Oh lawd, that's the P-funk sign. Yes yes I know Ozzy Ozbourne and such use it and I don't know who started it first and for the rockers its the horns of the devil. George Clinton and Funkadelic started using the sign in the 70s when P-Funk came out. It came to be known as the "funk sign" because when we went to Funkadelic concerts, we'd all be waving that sign out in the audience. Then Rick James jumped on the bandwagon and began using the sign calling his music "punk funk" along with the Bar-Kays and all the other funk groups started doing it. It pretty much died out in the 80s when many of the funk groups went by the wayside. I've never heard of any Christians running around using that sign to ward off evil.

Gene Simmons from the rock group KISS,..invented that hand gesture in the very early 70's.

Actually he didnt really invent it, per se,...he took it from Spider-Man comic books.
Whenever Spiderman wanted to shoot web from his wrists, he would make that hand gesture. Gene Simmons used that and other comic book/Science fiction elements in creating his "demon" character in the band.
Along flashing his tounge and spitting fire and the costumes, the hand sign didnt mean or represent anything.....it was just a gesture to animate his demon persona on stage.

He thought it was wierd when fans in the audience would make the sign at him at concerts. Eventually other folks picked up on it, ran with it,.....and the rest is history.
