Has there been any official word on the upcoming release of Tamar's cd?

I can't find anything online that says that the album is not coming out on 8/29.

I just checked bestbuy.com and it has the released date as 8/29. It can also be pre-ordered.
http://www.bestbuy.com/si...id=1525349

Universal's site is still showing 8/29 as the release date.

I think they are waiting to see, how the "sunday in park" single will do.

And they want to have the right to change the release date for their discretion.

I think its the oposite they could care less. I also think Tamar has a distrubution deal not an actually record contract.
You also have to consider when Universal split into Motown and Republic Tamar is on Republic they dont know how to market an "urban-type" artist look at who they have on their roster.

thanks for the welcoming thoughts - they warmed my morning coffee, really.

youse all can start tamar threads until the cows come dancing home for all i care - my annoyance is more with universal pushing back the album over and over, which i thought i expressed clearly in my post (see bolded words).

if i'm irritated by talk about tamar's album, it has more to do with the album being delayed and less to do with the talk.

understand? feel better? hug

Sorry, I totally misunderstood your post. I got it now - I feel better, feel good, feel wonderful. wink

But yeah, you're right. Universal needs to go ahead and release the album. Since it doesn't seem like they are putting any effort in trying to promote it, it's going to flop(just being real yall)...then they should send her back to the studio to work with different producers on a sophomore album, totally disassociate her from Prince, play up the pre-DC connection and revamp her image.

Since universal hasent put any effort (money) on the Tamar project, there's no pressure of flopping. You only flop if you spend a lot of money on promotion and expect/need huge 1st week sales to cover your expenses.

Now if she were to go back to the studio and get different producers, change her image and do exctacly what everyone else is doing then she will run the chance of flopping.

Tamar's album was produced by Herself and Prince at Paisley Park, from the ground up which means the kept cost to a minimal.
They way i see it she should go totally independent, so if she sold 50,000 copies she would make a lot more $ than a new artist on a major label would.

New artist get raped as far as royalites and all that our concerned.

True.

To be clear, I am not suggesting that she work with the latest hot producer. She should work with people who are in tune with her vision. I don't want to see her working with Pharrell or Timbaland just to get a hit record.

Tamar has a lot of potential, but imo, it may be difficult for the "real" Tamar to shine next to a legend like Prince, who is not only iconic, but seems to be very heavy-handed in his approach of grooming new artist.

i just think she needs SOME TANGIBLE THING out there to make all the promotion from this year stick. tamar wants us to help get her song played on the radio? great. to promote what? an invisible album? her myspace page? the ghost of npgmc?

i really don't understand why prince didn't at LEAST sell some tamar live tracks or a cybersingle on NPGMC before he had it shut down. SOMEthing people could bop to on their mp3 players and circulate to friends. the track on 3121 doesn't quite cut it.

Im with you on that, To me it seems like shes going the indepedent route but still trying to keep ties with the universal.
Drop the label or get dropped from universal, get you 10,000 cd's pressed up. Put them in the back of your truck and hit the road.
If she aint got money for a video, get a tape of one of her performances ealier this year, put that shyt on youtube, myspace whatevea.

The thing about artists it seems like with all their talent they dont have the right business savvy.

see, that's crazy. people i know who make music - a couple of 'em aren't doing too bad, either - seem to be always chomping at the bit to have people hear new stuff. i mean, even with me - if i actually got to a point where i FINISHED a story or an essay, i want EVERYONE to read it so i can get feedback.

of course, we're also dealing with the music industry here, so that's going to be extra inhibitive...

Its not a suprise that the people your know are doing well, part of that reason it that their ready to share there work with any and everyone.

I have a longtime friend who is a D.J. on the radio, and new artists would always aproach him to play their music on his show. 1st thing my friend would say is "I dont have any of your music" then the artist would almost always say "its in the record store go buy it".

Then my friend would tell them that what i buy at a record store is for my personal collection and that if you want airtime give me a tape and i will see what i can do. Its amazing how many artists would not give him a tape.

Bingo!

I hope she doesn't squander the opportunity she has been given by sitting back waiting for someone else to determine her destiny. She needs to be out there hustling - using her myspace page to driving traffic to her website, posting blogs letting her supporters know what she's up to or about upcoming performances, etc

Teedra Moses is an indie artist that has developed a nice following on myspace.
http://www.myspace.com/teedramoses

Of course she not out there like Beyonce or Ciara, but she has very respectable myspace numbers, considering the fact that she is not on a major label. A lot of her promotion comes from word-of-mouth. I found out about her on a message board. People were raving about her album, which I recently found out was released in 2004. I have never heard her music on the radio, seen her video on tv or even read about her in a magazine. So, it's possible to get your name out there and your music heard without major backing.

Oh yeah, she's a Prince fan. He's the only one listed next to influences. wink

I think the request on her myspace page was to get own little Street Team started so people would call the radio stations to get them to play the song to get it heard.

Problem with that is you bascially have to harass the crap out of radio DJ's. And they seem to only want to play acts who already have massive promotion regardless of the talent or potential.

agreed...tahts why the new way for "netrooting" an artist is by having folks reach out to net communities...hosting local parties were the artist calls is or offers special merchandise or mixes for the events...its no longer just about calling in the request line.

It's good idea for her (and other almost indie) artists. nod
I just hate the idea of having to join yet another online forum, in this case myspace.com.

I agreed! Tamar need to get away from Prince and she needs to wake up havent yet of how he had treated his past associates. Maybe Jill Jones should chat this girl and warned her to run from Prince.
