Who's got the real story behind Stevie Nick's 'Stand Back' ??

... did Prince have anything to do with it, and if so, what exactly??

After all these years I still hear lot of different story's, from -on one hand- writing and playing the song, to -at the other- not having anything to do with it.

What do you know/think??

Who's got the real story behind Stevie Nick's 'Stand Back' ??

Stand back... stevie nicks "wild heart" the entire vinyl is great. I grew up listening to stevie: kinda compelled to listening, as alot of her music is magical. More than meets the eye per se.

Now RE: prince and this song, he would have to answer it but it sure is great "le bet".

My favorites are: "Beauty and the Beast", "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You", "In The Shadow of The Castle Walls", "Sing for the Nightbird", "Edge of Seventeen" and of course this song "Stand Back<<<
(almost as if two people keep walking by each other noticing something very strange and beautiful and yet, not being able to walk thru the same mirror, like alice in wonderland or the wizard of oz - somewhere over the rainbow) < This is what stand back reminds me of.

Just sharing, thank you "promise kept".

Ditto to both accounts.
I read he came in and made up the keyboard
part for her. Lyrics and all had already been
done.

I used to think he penned the song til I read
DMSR (the 1st decade) and saw her interview
as well.

thanx for that! But is it me still in doubt if the story is actually true. Did she use Prince synth recording or just his idea?

I know the song from the day it was released and never came up with the idea Prince might be involved, 'till I heard the story a few years later.

But everytime I hear the song now, I'm still not convinced about his imput.

Could it be a publicity stunt by Stevie, after all, like she mentioned, they never had anything to do with each other before and even after the song, which is a bit odd I think..

Did Prince ever mentioned anything about Stand back?

Also his cooperation isn't mentioned anywhere on the album, neither his own or one of his nicknames.

I think the beat and synth sound exactly like a prince song, just mixed differently... like a dirty Mind, controversy type sound. It just lacks funk chords and funk bass, and that demo like tone. The synth is like Lovesexy or 1999... the actual song lyrics/vocal melody is pure Stevie nicks!

on one of my 80's compilation cd's, the song is credited to both of them on the listings.

Well, Stevie Nicks has circulated this story on more than one occasion and it seems an odd thing to do if it isn't true.

She has also at the very least gifted Prince a co-writing credit, either based on his 'inspiration' ot contribution, and as a result Prince receives payment for this 'contribution'.

Prince seems happy to accept the credit and to have this reported in one of his tour program books (Nude tour).

There is another story I've read that allegedly describes her spending a day with Prince, visiting his house to play pool and table tennis, but I've yet to see it authenticated, and the timings of her visit seemed a little wayward.

In the 90's, I worked for an engineer (David Dubow) who told me he was at that session the evening Stevie called Prince. Prince came right over and played the syncopated synth parts that you hear on the recording without using a sequencer. In real time. He also tracked a few other instruments before he left the studio and she never heard from him again at least for a long time. They didn't use everything he played, but his synth part is prominent in the final mix.

Yep. The only thing different that I heard was there is a guitar part on there that P played as well.
