Was Mayte the perfect Prince woman?

I was reading Possessed and I came across an intersting observation by the other about Mayte. It says..

"In appearence and personality. Mayte very much fit the model of Prince's pervious lovers, and in some ways seemed to combine their qualities. Her skin tone and facial structure were not far rmoved from Vanity or Apollonia; her low-key manner was very much like that of Anna Garcia. Her compact bustiness suggested a Latina version of Carmen Electra. And the reflective, almost mysterious air she exuded was reminiscent of Ingrid Chavez..."

hmmm Maybe that is why I like Mayte so much. We all know how I adore and admire the Prince women... worship...so it's kinda like if you would put them all together...shake them up and out would come MAYTE! I really miss her!

Oh sorry if I put this in the wrong form. Feel free to switch it over if you like Mods.

I don't know...I am such a huge Mayte fan. I just wanted to know what other's thought of Alex Hahn's observation. I thought it was pretty perceptive.

I´m not Krystal´s lawyer or anything, but I think you´re being a bit too harsh on her...she does mention some points that might be of interest to her or some other Prince or Mayte fans..there have been countless other threads in the past about this topic that were REALLY stupid, so why criticize Krystal for this one...it´s just a messageboard, no need to hurt peoples feelings over such small things.

Besides, with Krystal´s job and special interests in health/fitness, dancing and beauty, who are you to judge how deep or how superficial her post is ?

She´s making some valid points about certain physical features of Mayte and other Prince women, right ?
So what´s the big deal ? Guitarists speak about the guitars he uses, collectors speak about rare vinyl records, poster collectors speak about memorabilia and posters, and she speaks about looks and other related stuff.

Absolutely normal, IMO.

Well look...I am a huge Mayte fan always have been since I've been into Prince. Mayte's board is really dead so I feel it's ok to discuss her here considering she worked with Prince and was married to him.

Isn't it ok to like Mayte and start threads about her? Or are we all supposse to hate her guts because Prince doesn't like her anymore?

Who said anything about hating her confused Personally, I think ANY strong feelings about P's "women" are irrational, but that's just me giggle

IMO, asslicking posts about her, "the women" & all that other non-music bitchery fit best in Assoc Artists smile That's all I was saying, I just didn't say it very nicely. But knock yourself out girl bananadance

Hey, I was serious about my question. Was Prince the perfect artist for Mayte?
Could you see her with someone like Ricky Martin, Mark Anthony, Lenny Kravitz, or some other artist? Think about it
She was MUCH younger than Prince. While celebrity males often date younger women they also often get divorced from youngr women.
Hotter than Prince?
Was having an older man on her arms who appeared to have that "sugar daddy" presence detracting from Mayte's popularity potential?
Was Prince too feminine for Mayte?
While female Prince fans tend to find him the end-all-be-all quintesential male, the average person does not. A lot of women don't want men who look too feminine or wear as much makeup as they do. If Prince were the average guy on the street, he would be called "metrosexual" or people would accuse him of being a "down low brotha"...wait, they do that now. nod Would a more masculine suitor be a better counterpart for Mayte?

Although I pose these questions with a tad bit of irony, this subject could easily be flipped in this manner with seriousness. Soooo...opinions?

I don't give a rat's ass what other women or society would think of Prince if he was just another guy.

Is Prince perfect for Mayte? Well honeslty yes. I think so. When they were together she looked at him like she really loved him. They obviously had a very deep spirtual connection and there was nothing "gold diggerish" or "fake" about her. She obviously accepted Prince for who he was and supported him when he felt most aleinated and ganged up upon.

Yes Prince is effeminate but so what? Mayte obviously chooses her men based on much more than physicality. I mean look at Tommy Lee...lots of people would think of him as a skinny, freeky looking rocker who isn't your typical boy next door stud or whatever. Not everyone finds the same thing attractive. Mayte obviously looks deeper within when choosing her men.

Oh and yes I can see Mayte being a great back up dancer for Lenny now that you mention it. razz

The thing is that celebrities in American society get "passes" that normal people don't. Things like age, looks, height, weight an so on get overlooked when it comes to recognizable names. Things that are complaints for many women get turned into positives when it comes to celebs. If Prince were your grocer or your mailman could you honestly say if you saw him with Mayte that you wouldn't look twice? If Prince rolled up into the local nightclub in one of his pimp suits with Mayte on his arm, do you think they would go unnoticed or do you think that the average comment would be "Now he knows he's too damn old for her?"
I'm not saying this is my personal opinion as I don't really have one when it comes to Prince or any other celeb becaue their lives don't concern me. I'm just playing devil's avdvocate here. If Prince were less $ecure, not famous, and just an all around average guy who happens to have talent, do you think he'd get her attention? I'd say maybe but probably not nearly as much. Young attractive women who date older celebrity men aren't usually seen dating older average men after they break up with the celeb. They usually continue in a pattern of dating famous men or they date rich men but rarely do they date the "average man" and go live an average life. That usually doesn't happen until they get into their late 20s or so and start to realize they are being edged out of the competition by younger women. I'm just saying...shrug

Well probably not. Being a famous musician obviously opened alot of doors for Prince concerning his range of mates. I mean people give him so much shit for choosing to date white women in the eighties..but if he was a black guy running a record store how many white women do you think he would have had the opportunity to date? Back then? I know it's chic now for white women to go after black guys but interracial relationships were kinda taboo back then I think. I think Prince knew this and took full advantage of that.

Mayte and Prince probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to have any meaningful interaction if she didn't go on tour with him. Enough to fall in love with eachother. Maybe she is attracted to artistic men and if she didn't work for him and he wasn't a big name she wouldn't have known how talented he was...which would have played a big part in the reason of being attracted to him.

But that doesn't mean that their coming together and love for one another is any less real than if they were not alienated celebrities. You can't compare their lives to us with non-famous people.

I'm certainly not trying to invalidate their relationship in any way, I'm just saying that "perfect Prince woman" is kinda subjective. Those criterior seem to change at Prince's whims. I'm saying that people create the circumstances they choose to be in and people choose what they will and won't live with and those circumstances may or may not be the best situations for them, however it is what they choose to be in. By the same token you could ask "is Katie Holmes the perfect mate for Tom Cruise?". You would get the same kind of responses. It still comes down to the choices people make. I certainly wouldn't call Prince and Mayte Ken and Barbie but I'm sure being romanced by a rich, dashing millionaire is not beyond the dreams of many women. In many countries, its very acceptable. Whether or not those circumstances could be defined as "perfect" are subjective. The criterior upon which the definition of "perfect" is based is also subjective. It just depends on who you ask. At the end of the day, they are done. They shared a life experience together and now it has passed. He's married and has shown no signs of unhappiness to the public so I guess its safe to say "NO" Mayte is not the perfect Prince girl although that's not saying that his current wife is either.
All I know is I don't really give a damn because I ain't screwing either one - Mayte nor Mani. shrug

BlaqueKnight, your observation is very interesting and on point....and as far as I know, Mayte wasn´t even really a Prince fan to begin with, I mean she wasn´t really THAT familiar with his art and his catalogue when they started dating. Unlike Mani, who knows quite a lot about his music and his history. That´s why I think she´s been quite a positive influence in some ways.

Then again, there was a certain chemistry between Prince and Mayte on and off stage in the mid nineties, and her aura for sure inspired him to compose some great music.

Superficially speaking, the Scorpio-Gemini relationship is not exactly the easiest one to maintain...even though one shouldn´t judge by the sunsigns alone.

Hey you sound like you are really into astrology! That's cool I love astrology. smile Yes but I think a Scorpio/Gemini relationship might be tough with Geminin's wanting their freedom and Scorpio's tendency to dominate.

What do u think of Virgo/Gemini together as with Prince and Mani? smile

1. Yes, I am . Very much....especially when it comes to relationships...speaking from experience. lol
Though I do admit the sunsign isn´t the only important factor, I still believe that certain combinations work better , at least for me , than others.

2. Virgo - Gemini is not exactly the best combi, but it´s still better than a Gemini/Scorpio combination....Virgo being a very intellectual, stimulating and disciplined character, certainly much better for the mercurial Gemini, who´s also a quick learner and intellectual sponge.

nod COOL!

Yes you are so right! I've been into astrology for years! I agree it's not just sun signs your whole chart must be considered.

In appearence and personality. And the reflective, almost mysterious air she exuded was reminiscent of Ingrid Chavez..."

the thing about this , for me, is that i don't really agree with hahn's statment. i mean ceratinly Mayte is of "the prince type" in the same way manuela is but they looking nothing alike you know. after years of observing prince his "type" is usually:

more short short than tall
pear shaped(meaning an ass w/ little or no boobs)
high cheek bones
brunettes
with the odd tall woman(nona)and the odd blonde(basinger)

there is absolutely nothing "busty" about the womaen prince dates. he said himself tha every since he saw the Godfather movie and saw the young itlaian wife with small breasts, he's always preferred them. he also admitted inan early interview reproduced in the jon bream book that he was a legs and ass man.

RE the other stuff

as usual , most people didn't/don't presently give a damn about mayte other than the prince thing.

RE astrology
yes i agree that scorpio/gemini is difficult, opposed even. but it's all about the aspects of the charts as a whole. prince has a scorpio ascendant and that makes an attraction to scorpios more likely and genial. as a virgo myself i know that we are the "responsible sibling" to the gemini's more childish qualities. we are both ruled by the hermaphroditic planent Mercury so we get along but in more of a sibling way not so good with romance, but again, it's about the entire chart. also, manuela is nearer to the libra cusp which means she would have more air(the gemini element) in her chart.

Such a beautiful woman! Hmm..Ok, when looking at the first pic it's really obvious that she did get a boob-job! She so would not have needed that!! But it doesn't matter, her choice.

Oh and yes I can see Mayte being a great back up dancer for Lenny now that you mention it. razz

I'm just playing devil's avdvocate here. If Prince were less $ecure, not famous, and just an all around average guy who happens to have talent, do you think he'd get her attention?

Hell no.
