Andre Cymone Is A Bloody Genius!

A friend of mine downloaded some of his tracks for me and I just can't get enough. Satisfaction, Get it girl, Kelly's eye's and my favorite is the Dance electric. Any of you guys have his music? Which albums are best? Where the hell is he now??

Yes he is, and not to mention he is fine. Beside Brownmark, Andre is my fav Prince bassist.

In some way I like more of his sound than Prince though I know he is obviously influenced by the purple one.

Andre is definately wonderful. He's my favorite from the Prince camp. I bought the "Living In The New Wave" and "AC" albums back in the day and love them all the way through. I only have a burned copy of the song "Make Me Wanna Dance" from the second album. I should have bought the "Surviving The 80s" album back in the day because I can't find it now.

I like the 45 version of "Kelly's Eyes" better than the album version. It has the double handclaps. The 45 of "Lipstick Lover" is also better than the album version.

"So Fine" is my favorite song of Andre's. I love that intro.

I think Andre was influenced more by the new wave sound than Prince was. New wave is all over his first album. Prince and Andre were great together. I think a little of each rubbed off on each other.

I've got to get those - I only have the album versions. "Kelly's Eyes" is my favorite 'dre song. He really had the new wave sound down pat.

That's exaclty what i'm talking about. It's the whole new wave sound. I absolutely love it. I think that's why i might actually like his music more than Prince because it's so damn new wave it's sick! I mean that in a wonderful way.

I only saw one Andre Cymone video from back in the 80's and it was hilariously bad.

Far from genius at all.

Yeah, he did. My fave from him though is "Red Light". That was actually cut in early 82 and P wanted for "1999" and Andre said "Hell nah". This is what he told me.

I was always disappointed that his music never got any traction. I thought Survivin In The 80's -- was great!

If someone were to put out a greatest hits collection (similar to Jesse Johnson"s-Ultimate Collection),do you think it would sell?

Well, I had it. I lost it when I moved years ago. Never forgave myself afterwards. Cymone was the man though. I used to be in a garage band that covered all his music. Crazy thing was everybody thought they were original compositions. I never understood why Cymone was under the radar. His representation must've been horrible..

He had Owen Husney, P's first manager. In Husney's own words, "Everybody got shaped into that mold by Prince, but he set a bad example", Husney argues. "Prince said, 'You can go up against the record company. You can produce your own album. Don't listen to the record label. Play all of your instruments, write all your own songs.' The problem is, that worked for Prince, but not for the others. I got Andre a great deal with Columbia, but he wanted to tell them to fuck off and doe everything. And I kept saying, 'Why? You've got a career.' I said, 'Bring in producers. Have three producers. Find other songs that you dig that you didn't write and put them on your album.' But he got into telling the record company to duck off and you can't do it". Prince may have been abble to get away with such behaviour, but it did not work for Andre."

the title track"survivin' in the '80's" has a monster groove. I'm sorry, but that cut makes me head bob. Andre is underrated and he underachieved. He has made an impact, but his impact should be far greater. He is supremely talented. He wish he would do more to show this to the world. Plus,I am missing some great music,I'm sure.

See this is why I come here. Great information you can't find any place else. Why didn't he listen to Husney??? DAMN! When you do it all yourself, you inevitably burn out quicker -- or your music stops growing.

Andre felt he had to compete with P and visa verse. If P played everything on a song, then so did Andre.

Good for him. If you've got it flaunt it. It's just a shame that he wasn't more succesful. What the hell is he doing these days? All that talent going to waste.
